I've been an acoustic performer for 10 years, been playing for 25 years. The last few years, between people like Tyler Childers, Jason Isbell, and Dawes has really made an impression in me. Singer/Songwriters are still relevant in this generation, and need to be heard more than the mainstream radio music we have on FM. I know that sound cliché, but it's the honest truth. I honestly thought the days of music like this were over.

I have listened to several of the new songs as they trickled out . . . there were a couple that I thought stood up to his best, and I thought Cobb did a remarkable job on the production and the mix. But, somehow . . . then I listened to all the songs in the stripped down version last night . . . when the song is the only thing . . . and, these are, simply put, great songs. "Only Children" is remarkably great . . . Thanks to Jason and Amanda for a grand way to spend part of my Friday evening . . .

I regret being quick to judge this album compared to Jason’s past work. I now recognize my musical pallet is not developed enough to fully appreciate a 41-year-old Isbell. A well-aged lyrical genius living his own version in his own Prime (both ways). Music and lyrics that reach the darkest recessions of the heart and mind, areas most have closed up, boarded up, pushed down deep inside to be forgotten - these songs plow through all those barricades and shine a light of truth and reflection. Not Barnum effect! If you are not ready for a journey of emotional honesty stick to the mind-numbing radio-friendly mainstream twaddle that Billboard top100 grants weekly tongue baths.

Dude, it's "palate"... not being a butt, but a musical pallet would be my music collection when they clean out my farmhouse after I'm dead or just given the old Dead Summer Tour life a re-try...

I’d love to be able to purchase this stripped down version as well!

I became a fan of Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires. Sorry I haven't got into this field until recently. I've revisited California sound like Little Feat, Eagles, Byrds, and Linda Ronstadt and found Jackson Browne, JD Souther, Karla Bonoff and other musicians great. During that time, I found Brandi Carlile and found Highwomen and Jason soon after that. Now, I'm glad and grateful for your music. I will dig into more gradually. Thank you for your music. I would love to watch your gig in USA in future.

From Facebook - Songs... LMj has posted this, I believe, twice in the last 24 hours. I am sure I've already posted this song in the loosely tracked "Quarantine Songs" "challenge?". But this is a song that really stands out. It's the first song that made me perk up and take note of an obscure songwriter who was working at the time as a guitarist for the Drive-by Truckers. I put it on a 4-cd mix me and my siblings put together for my old man on his 65th birthday. Snuck it in somewhere between Jackson Browne and The Eagles. It stuck out like a beautiful sore thumb, and everyone, including my dad, took notice. Mise en scene - it's late July in Cleveland, dusk, and warm. The backyard is full of Baby Boomers and their kids. The playlist is filling the air in the backyard and the lightning bugs are coming out. "Goddamn Lonely Love" comes on, and you can see the reaction wash over the crowd - an interruption of an otherwise upbeat stream of songs that remind us of our dad. The song finishes and dad turns to me and my older sister, who is dumbfounded that I snuck a Drive-by Truckers song into the mix, and says: "well they can't all be happy songs, can they?" Brilliant.
