Odd, I've been reloading .223 and 5.56 cases since 1980 and never had one split when resizing.

RCBS makes a swaging tool that removes the military crimp on the primer pocket. Primers load with no problem if you swage the brass first.

Thanks for the tip! I didn't know that. Apparently I gotta get online and do some buying lol.

Thank you for the tips. I had the exact problem with the .223 shells. I will try this next time.

223 brass is also reloaded for the military to use, so some 223 brass will have crimped primer pockets as well, the best thing you can do is get a swaging machine and swage all the brass then you will not have these problems.

Dude, thanks! Went through three different priming devices with continues issues - this looks like the fix!

Look up the term "swaging your brass". And lube for rifles is a must!

The Reloader Dude I've seen swagers.... They cost too much IMO for what they accomplish. Also weirdly enough I'm having more probs with .223 vs 5.56 accepting a primer ??? Apparently it's supposed to b the other way around.

Forever modding well do it however you want. It is your bench. But I have been reloading a long time and have never read that technique in any reloading manual. Changing the shape of the primer pocket into a cone and causing a primer pocket to be out of a certified SAAMI spec just does not seem like best practice.

The Reloader Dude I'm not changing the primer pocket into a cone shape..... It's just a chamfer ... I'm literally doing the same thing as some swager tools do.... I've just found a tool that I already had laying around that does the same thing. And yes I've seen your channel and can see that you've been at it a while. I think the diff between you and me is that you enjoy reloading and have no prob dumping $ into it. I HATE reloading and also hate dumping $ into stuff I don't absolutely need for my shooting addiction. Lol I prob have 250-300 wrapped up in my reloading setup ... But if I bought every tool at the shop for reloading I could easily see myself into 2k worth of tools and gadgets that would accomplish the same thing. I think the only things I would really wanna spend $ on would b a "worlds finest trimmer" and an RCBS charge master(only for use on precision loads)

Forever modding buy the rcbs military crime remover. Tape the threads and chuck it in your drill. It works better than the taper bit.

Great video! I started reloading some 223 REM and out of 15 rounds 5 had primer issues and 1 primer got stuck in my Lee small primer arm which detonated

thanks for this vid. i started reloading recently and had luck with all my other calibers, i started to prime some 223 yesterday and was having a issue but im using the the lee press. i ordered a hand auto primer that i hear seats better but im going to try this and see if it works for me.

I’ve had a lot of stuck cases reloading brass and steel alike their actually very similar and I usually just remover to top thingy and hammer em with the rod or a old hinge pin or something.

Yup. I ruined 3 primers today, reloading .223 Federal, once shot brass, that I bought at Walmart. Some of the primer holes are pretty jagged, after you decap them.

Hornady has a swaging die for the LNL progressive press to deal with the primer issue. Works really well and faster but not cheap at around $85. If you are gonna load a lot of 223 then definitely worth it.

Thanks for the info! However ...ive stopped reloading 223 since the prices came down. Now a days i only reload big bore stuff.

I use the same counter sink bit and it saves lots of time!!! Use lube make it yourself and its far cheaper than buying it.

I've been reading that the lanolin/alcohol is best

Yes very cheap and you can make gallons of the stuff.

The 5.56 has a military cramp in them. If you don't remove it you can/will deform your primers. They put the crimp in for function and reliability. I think you got the 5.56 mixed up with the 223. The 223 shouldn't have any problems with priming. I have a video on this if you care to watch.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eX_anHV9n8xsqLc

That's clearly a military crimped primer pocket which you gotta remove
