CONSISTENCY!!! And I’m glad to hear your opinion on the matchmaster. That’s what I use, and have always been jealous of those auto-tricklers! Guess I’m good with what I have.

I have noticed, that my RCBS Matchmaster powder dispenser works best, when it has been warming more than 2 hours. It wont do wrong measures basically at all.
@HendoSamСағат бұрын
I tested this with all 3 of my Supremes. After 30min warm up they all over throw consistently. At an hour it’s intermittent at worst and after 2 hours I might get 1-2 overthrows throughout my time loading for the day.

Do you use an expander mandrel on fire formed cases or just new?

I'm still reloading with vintage equipment I bought in the 70's, and we have just observed reloading as an art! AI is amazing and downright scary at times. Happy Christmas and see you in 2025!

Great video. Only disagreement is on the primer seating depth. Flush will always work but is not necessarily optimal. SAAMI specs a min/max range for pocket depths AND primer heights. For ensuring anvil contact (and not leaving a gap) you need to actually measure pocket depths and primer heights. (Accuracy One makes a nice "Precision Primer Gauge" for this but so does Primal Rights I believe.) Anyway, you may have a pocket/primer combination that requires seating 6 or 8 though below flush to make contact. This can only be achieved if you have a adjustable primer seater of course. (I personally think this is why some people get better results using certain primers over others. I don't think it's the primer itself...but the height is just a better fit to the brass they are using. Flush or "just below" may be the ideal seating depth in these cases and that's what they are seeing but without actually "seeing". Same with bad results which could be a deep pocket and shallow primer, which could leave a large gap and the firing pin drives it home). It's not a common topic that gets covered but if you look at the specs it makes sense. FWIW, if you are that deep in the rabbit hole then take a right... because you've already reached the bottom. haha.

I absolutely love the dehumidifier cabinet for powder and primers. What are the dimensions of it and how many containers of powder can you keep in it?
@multicammando23 сағат бұрын
If I recall correctly, runout does not effect accuracy. It would have to be way off center line to create an issue. Erik Cortina did a video on the topic a few years ago and found no negative effects. With that said I still spin my rounds when seating in any of my presses except when doing bulk loading 😊

BAIE dankies Piet. Geseënde Kersfees vir jou en familie. Dis so amazing, I logged onto KZbin for something completely different, and 'BANG!' up pops your vid first! What's even more amazing is...well, just guess what I was doing today! Yup, you guessed it: Reloading!!!! Not only that, 6.5CM as well...PLUS also LAPUA (SRP) brass PLUS I used the APW Expander...for the first time! I know, with LAPUA brass it will be an insult, but I put all my pieces through an FL bushing die first. Then I turned to APW, using the .262 mandrel. See, I do listen to your advice: no good having uniformity on the outside of your neck if the inside isn't uniform! So ja, maak sin, né! After all, it is the inside of the neck that holds the 'freedom seat'! As ek mag vra Piet , watse grootte APW mandrel gebruik jy vir 6.5CM? Groete en Seënwense

Merry Christmas to you and yours Piet, I always enjoy your videos...not only to see how or what you do different than I do but how much we do things the same, lol. After shooting Erik Cortina's ethical hunter challenge with his rifle, I set out to build myself a PRS rifle as I will probably add that discipline in the coming year. Hoping to get my first shots down range before the New Year...we'll see if I get it finished in time.

Piet, why the switch from the Supertrickler? I stayed with the V4, as I found it much easier to use than the Supertrickler, but I’m surprised you went to the RCBS throwers. I was concerned about the scales on them, as opposed to using the FX120 on the Supertrickler and the V4.
@horseguy123018 сағат бұрын
Sponsorship most likely.. Stick with the V4.
@richardwills801712 сағат бұрын
@ Thanks, however there is no way I trade my V4 for a Matchmaster. The V4 is fantastic and I love it. I would imagine the Piet’s reason for switching is likely what you said, I was just wondering if there might be some other reason. If I recall correctly, Piet gave up his V4 for the Supertrickler. Just really curious.

Love the vids you put out! Curious why you don't use the Area 419 die rings? I started using my Zero press with the rings that came with my various match dies and found some are not made as evenly as others and would be uneven by up to a few thousandths sometimes, so I switched to the Area 419 rings and those were perfectly flat all around. A little pricey for die rings but if I'm already reducing as much run out as possible by buying a zero press (in theory) it only made since to ensure my die rings were perfectly square to the turret.

A great video. About the powder and humidity when in their original cannisters, brian z with youtube channel: witchdoctorprecision, did a test with powder in different temps and humidity. He found that as long as the powder container lid is tight that the powder didn't change weight/volume. But as you noted, powder left exposed in the scales can and will change weight/volume depending on humidity, so i do recommend putting powder back in the container each day. Storing powder in sometype of a heated and well sealed garage or in your house is wise though. Your other points are also great advice. Thanks

You know, from the get go, how many rounds you are going to reload. You know the load. You have a calculator, or "whatever you are watching this video on has a "thingumagic"/app that computes" or your can find a stick or a dead relatives finger in your backyard, and write in the dirt and use magic! ("math")... and thereby know how much powder to pour into the dispenser...and thereby leaving ALL the rest safe on sound in the container... Add just a bit for throwaway...:-)

Would really like to see a 22 cal comparison for 2025. Wanting something that I can shoot steel out to 1k yards effectively and then it also be duel purpose for a varmit rifle. Been looking really hard at a 22GT shooting 75gr+ bullets.
@MrTacklebury18 сағат бұрын
Amen brother and Merry Christmas to you and yours. I do the rotation thing for runout, but I'm a little more anal, I guess. I start the bullet into the case, then rotate 120 degrees and push it in about 1/3rd more, then rotate a again 120 degrees and bottom the die with pressure. I load on a Lee Challenger Breechlock press and it works great for me, but I typically do maximum 50 rounds at a time. I'm not doing it for competitions either. I cannot believe how much that 419 equipment is and the Henderson trimmer, but I approach reloading like most people approach crocheting; it's a bit of a time sink, but it's meant to be. ;)
