Very informative video. I will probably pass on the Terminal Ascent for now. Bullet prices just keep getting more crazy and I just don't want to play that game any more. I might get laughed at, but I actually ordered some Speer Grand Slam projectiles for my 300 Win mag. I realize the BC is not good and not as accurate as the latest and greatest, but the price is right and it will do the job on elk on the distances that I hunt at. I still have some Accubonds that I am using, but when I run out of those I will likely give the Speer a try.

In Michigan we have, almost unlimited opportunities for doe harvest, almost everyone knows a farmer or farmers with crop damage “block” permits. Since 1996 I’ve hunted in the western US almost every year except for maybe three years? One of those years I harvested a moose in Canada. I’ve had the opportunity to experiment with a variety of hunting bullets, 20+ years ago, when bonded core bullets became popular I tried the Nosler Acubond and Swift Scirocco Bonded, I felt the results were awful! Those bullets, especially the Accubond have good reviews? They didn’t seem to want to expand on Whitetail, Mule Deer and Antelope? The Hornady Interbond seemed to expand better? It seems they were using a softer alloy? Now that was 20+ years ago, perhaps the metallurgy has changed since then? Because of how bad my experience was, I will not use a bonded core bullet to this day. My favorite go to bullet over the past 25 years has been the Barnes X (and all the variants including the LRX most recently) I’m sold on Barnes solid copper bullets, I look forward to trying the hammer bullets as well, from point blank range all the way up and over 700 yards, from .243 caliber all the way up to Weatherby 30-378, I actually don’t mind the Hornady ELDX? That’s what I harvested my moose with in Canada? I don’t have any experience with any caliber or any bullet on elk? That could potentially be the difference of opinion we might be seeing? It is somewhat mind blowing how people can have vastly different experiences, maybe the newer bonded core bullets are better than they used to be for lighter game? I’ve never had a bad experience with a Barnes X TTSX LRX etc. bullet.

Every bullet has failed. I also think Hunters might have different expectations than what the bullet was designed to do. I shot an elk last year at 50 yards away with a 200 gr Accubond. The Elk was DRT with one shot. The Accubond appeared to have "penciled" through the animal. The exit wound seemed about the same size as the entrance. My biggest regret was not examining what the Accubond did on the inside of the elk. I was in a rush to get off the mountain.

The experienced hunter will have past hunting experiences to overcome all needed to take down the animals wanted with the bullets being used. Say with one of 2 rifles I own that I chambered in 300 Wby mag I normally shoot 180 grain Barns LRX but long ago in Anchorage Alaska where I lived the K mart had boxes of Norma brand 300 Wby with 180 grain Vulcan bullets with price was marked wrong at $5.00 a box so I bought all 8 boxes. I have used 5 of these cartridges & bullets to take down Yukon bull moose, did the moose know any difference shot by these bullets or the Barns bullets? sure NOT! I eventually pulled the 180 gr Vulcan bullets and then replaced them with Barns 180grain LRX because the meat loss caused by the 180 grain Vulcan bullet was horrendous!

Have used many bullets in my hunting days. The partitions are just a good all around bullet in short to medium distances. Accubonds are one of my favorite for accuracy and reliability. Fail safes were awesome hammers but the moly bore coating does foul barrels. Triple shocks worked but have had some pedals break causing unwanted damage to game. Interbonds and Corelokts are like grenades up close so be careful of velocity and distance. Just starting to dabble in Eldx bullets.

I bought 3 boxes of those on the cheap, about 1/4 of the bullets measure undersize at .306. To use up the small dia bullets I ended up buying a 2 thou smaller bushing to get the right neck tension. Speeds and accuracy were pretty different between the 308 and 306 dia bullets.

Should be an interesting outcome both for the 300wby and 300prc with this one. I’ve seen a handful of rifles shoot these in respective terms from factory ammo. Several did not like them and several did- nothing new with factory ammo. Friends used to use the TBBC from federal years ago and I’m sure on game these will do just as good if not a little better. If they don’t group well (at least an inch) then you’re better off just using what you do know works. Overall, their price is grotesque so I’ll stick with my Nosler bullets.

Bullets with a forward lead half and a rear copper half usually don't print as well as a conventional design. The Accubond is modern version of Jack Carter's Trophy Bonded bullet. The JC Trophy Bonded bullets print sub 1/2 MOA out of my Remington 700 in 300 Win Mag. I've taken 2 Elk with one shot each with these bullets. I recovered one bullet with 100% weight retention. My rifle shoots a 0.3" group at 100 yards with Nosler BT. I shot factory Federal Trophy Bonded ammo, and it was inaccurate. I pulled the bullets from the remaining cases, an put them in my handloaded shells. They were still inaccurate. Nosler Partition bullets print 1 1/2 MOA, because of the dumbbell shaped moment of inertia, but they are still the gold standard for plains game. I anticipate you will find the Federal Terminal Ascent less accurate than the Accubond.

I feel the Federal Termial Ascent IS NOT the "ultimate" hunting bullet - it has ALL the disadvantages of BOTH a Lead Bullet and copper bullet- 1) Lead nose- Toxic particles in Meat. Not legal in lead free zines 2)Lead nose /&Copper shank VERY POOR SUPERSONIC WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION within the bullet 3)Copper Shank- High Breech Pressures compared to Lead Core bullets. 4) Ballistic Coefficients overstated by 10% 5) Not very accurate in most rifles.

1. I'm never going to hunt in California... lol 2. Not going to argue on this one 3. There are pressure groves on the bullet 4. I'm sure it is 5. That has been my experience with it in Factory ammo... we will see how it does when it's handloaded.

@ReloadingWeatherby Interesting. I have found Factory loaded terminal assent to be the most accurate commercially available round in three different rifles, different calibers. 6.5CM, .308, and 300 WinMag

I've seen in several tests that the weight retention is extremely close if not 100% on these bullets. So the lead contamination is probably minimal. I shoot coppers, but if I were going to use lead it would probably be this one.
