The album did make history, but that was in the early 90's. Meaning almost everyone under 30 has never heard the song, let alone knows the significance of the album. To think any member blah blah blah. Yes, they do, they licensed the song to The Bear to use. Many artist strictly prohibit this. I could give you 10 examples of top artists who will never allow their songs to be used in tv. So yes, REM does care about that exposure. The only joke is your boomer ass detached comment. It's not that bad, but it's just too simplistic and "really fruity, kind of bubblegum song", as Stipe described it, who hated it initially (although he kind of changed his mind later), and was embarrassed that it became a hit, and the band didn't include it in their "In Time" compilation, and rarely performed it live.
