Traditional Filipino houses are called "Bahay Kubo" or Nipa Hut. Usually made of bamboo for posts and walls. Dried Nipa palm leaves for the roof. These materials are very suitable for the hot tropical climate of the philippines. The bahay kubo can also be transferred from one place to another if the need arises. The people in the neighborhood helps the owner transfer the whole house by carrying it using bamboo poles. We call it "bayanihan" which means communal unity and cooperation.

The roofs are palm leaves (specifically, nipa leaves; coconut leaves can be used too; others use cogon or long reeds to make thatched roofs). Traditional, small Filipino houses use palm leaves, wood, and bamboo. However, as the country also follows modern architecture, you will see plenty of modern builds all around the country, esp in urban places and tourist areas.

Sis Olga you must come and visit the Philippines to experience with yourself the beauty of nature has to offer and the hospitality of the pilipinos. The roof of the bahay kubo or house is made from Nipa plant. A specie of plant belongs to palm trees. Banana leaves cannot be used as roof for long term use. It decays or decompose faster the nipa leaves.
