I don't know how many of you are aware, but if you are interested in a extended version of Notch's original game, there is Minicraft+. It's worth a try if you want like a more developed version of the original game. Even adds a new boss.

None of my friends knew what the game was and I honestly thought I had some kinda false memory that formed in my childhood of a game that didn't even exist. For future reference, I really recommend Pro Motion NG for pixelart. You can make a SNES/Genesis-like 16bit graphics very easily with barely any effort. It used to be quite expensive, but now it's just $30 on Steam, which for a program of this functionality is a steal. Oh, and it is heavily inspired by the Deluxe Paint.

MIT means open source. So yes. Technically if your not using any service from a program (like social networking or multiplayer) in the usa your free to mod privately held programs no matter what, so long as your doing so to do legal activities and not sharing any intellectual property.
