You could have totally looked at temu (or anywhere) and created a better version without international shipping, dodgy labour laws and plastic fabrics likely going in the bin. I’m the same age as you. I literally grew up in the town that the woman who wrote the riddles for I, Spy lived in, (and it was a REALLY small town) so as a child I didn’t really have a concept of the books being THAT ubiquitous to people our age’s childhood because I kind of felt like she was only a local celebrity. A kalimba, or a finger piano. You can buy the main bits separately to make your own. I just found a wooden salad bowl from a fleamarket that had a nice sound when I knocked on the side. Then just flipped it upside down, screwed the bits on the bottom, tuned the tines with an app, tightened them down, -tada- a homemade kalimba that sounds pretty nice. Howl's moving castle's Merry go Round Life is one of the more popular tunes for kalimbas.

But looking back at my childhood the amount of times I spent in graveyards looking at people's death dates for my mom's family tree records it's no wonder I liked the macabre. Temu, where Chinese women make an almost living wage. It's depends on what you purchase. Most clothes are polyester knock offs, however, the huge scaves are fantastic! others things, not so bad. Remember almost anything you buy these days is made in China.
