Nice organization of the vid: I like how you are just GETTING ON IT with sharing these impressions. This video quickly reaches the heart of the matter. Only after that does it share the gotchas / future desires. One desire for future: segment the video ("KZbin Video Chapters") so as to highlight the HOWTO part, at @9:48 "Download Text of typed documents" (or something similar).

Good review. I will probably get one of these. Latest is that there is a delivery delay - maybe up to two months or so. So, I plan to order after they have worked out their problems. If you are a connect customer there is a $50 discount.

Probably already in comments, but windows keyboard shortcuts for text options work: B is bold, I is italic, etc. Works on mine. Got it yesterday and was doing those shortcuts out of habit.The U doesn't underline.

I've been looking for something that I can use for both note taking and creative writing/sketching while also having a distraction free environment. The layout of the Type Folio is a bit unusual but such tools are intended for minimalists anyway and so no surprise it reminds me of a typewriter. Although some text formatting features like italic or character sizing are missing which is a bummer, hopefully they'll add such with the next firmware update.
@gogomachrocketsheep

Yeah I really hope they'll add italics and bold. the 3 different 'title, subtitle, body' fonts are different sizes, but it's not quite the same as just having the ability to make your font bigger or smaller. And- having used it for over a month- I LOVE writing on it distraction free. It's crazy how much a person can get done without constant notifications interrupting

Any thoughts or concerns about writing on the remarkable using the typing folio while not using the keyboard? I'm concerned that it will not lay flat for easy writing or will not be as stable.
@gogomachrocketsheep
@gogomachrocketsheep Жыл бұрын
Because of the weird way it opens, the tablet lays EXACTLY flat to write on when it is in the case but when it isn’t popped up for the keyboard to be used. It’s sort of weird- you open it like a book first, and fold the cover underneath the tablet, then you lift the tablet up by the sides to pop it into sort of an ‘a-frame’ mode to type. That means it lays flat for ease of writing. That being said, I don’t like writing on it (with the pen) when it is using the keyboard in the ‘a-frame’ laptop-ish keyboard mode. Hope that makes sense! When it’s in the keyboard mode, it automatically changes to horizontal mode. When the keyboard detatches and the tablet sits flat on top of the keyboard, it automatically changes to portrait mode (which is my preference for using the pen, but if switching between the two orientations is annoying, I know you can set it to be horizontal all the time.) Again, hope that helps! :D

Is there a way to do tab spacing, tab stops, and margin changes? What i really want is a word processor that avoids destractions, preferably e-ink, that can be exported to be printed or sent as pdf over email. That doesn't seem to be on the market right now. By the way this is probably the most helpful video on remarkable/folio keyboard for my purposes that I've seen so far, thank you!
@gogomachrocketsheep
@gogomachrocketsheep Жыл бұрын
Glad to hear you liked the video! At this point, you can definitely tab to indent a bit, but I don't think it really has margins per-say. All of my text exporting is just as a text file, which i then format further if I need too. I know you can export as a .pdf, but I think the formatting options sorta suck if you were looking to print directly. Edit: I should say that, since I've got the keyboard, they've added quite a lot of functionality with regards to the text (such as italics, bold). So i wouldn't be surprised if they continue to roll out features for people that want to use it more as a word processor.

At this time the reMarkable doesn't support 3rd party apps. I know that they're trying to work on Microsoft Word integration, but as far as I can tell it's just an automatic way to export word docs as .pdf's that show up on the tablet. One other thing- at this point, you can't type INTO imported pdf's, only on documents that originate on the reMarkable.

I think the hardware is reaching the limit on a 2+yo device. The lag is there at times and hopefully if there is a new RM3 soon it works with this keyboard
@gogomachrocketsheep
@gogomachrocketsheep Жыл бұрын
I was wondering if some of the features I would like the typing to do (manipulatable text using the transform tool, textboxes placed around the screen, etc) might be a bit too much for the RM2. After a week of having it, I still find myself using the pen quite a bit, more then I thought I would.

Has this improved at all to add the missing formatting options? - I'm a bit in 2 minds about this one, it looks funky but learning a new layout and adding extra weight/bulk seems to detract from the core experience of the reMarkable.
@gogomachrocketsheep
@gogomachrocketsheep Жыл бұрын
it has indeed added some of the missing formatting options- they've added bold and italics. Still no underline. It's a good observation that the keyboard sort of seems distracting from what the ReMarkable set out to do- a simple device for capturing handwriting. It does indeed. I use the ReMarkable every day, and most of the time it sits in my tablet case that I originally bought for it. When I know I need a keyboard I'll snap it in and take it, but for the most part I am still using the ReMarkable to draw and hand write; that being said, my classes don't start up again for a few months and I anticipate this set up totally replacing my ipad/laptop for classes and lecture note taking.

@gogomachrocketsheep
@gogomachrocketsheep Жыл бұрын
For an E-ink display, a slight delay is pretty normal- it feels a lot faster when typing with the Folio keyboard compared to typing with the on-screen keyboard. That being said, the device does lag when you try to transform a lot of lines at once. I don't think the tablet has a very strong processor. Still, for note taking and drawing, it's largely sufficient.
