@@2011hwalker I meant that as to say there are many times when Pogi actually wanted Jonas to work with him going off the front, like stage 1 and 2 last year TDF and Jonas looked at him and said “no way!” Whereas Remco would gladly work with Pogi and get whooped in a sprint. Remco being a wildcard in the tour is an advantage to Pogi overall in my opinion

Don't know why but watching this stage reminded me that Pogi and Jonas are still on another level even compared to Remco and Roglic. There is no world where Pogi doesn't, if he was here, win this stage, and Jonas would have surely won too.Also I've got no idea why Remco is so brutally conservative in stage races nowadays. Yes he might not have had it today but still he should have just tried on the second to last climb or even before that.

Honestly I think this was Remco trying his hardest. If you look back at other stages this season he has no steam compared to many other riders that are not expected to win the TdF. hey guys, love the Pod. Just a suggestion. You guy often make predictions the day before a race, stage or an entire stage race, and it would be great if you could cite, maybe right before the profiling of the route, if your prediction from the day before came true. It seemed as though QS & Remco possibly knew that Remco was not on a great day, thus they thought that UAE would take care of keeping the stage together for everyone while defending the leaders jersey. If I assume that Remco was not on a great day, then my bigger question was why was UAE not doing more to defend the jersey? It seems ridiculous to think that UAE were just sitting there thinking that Remco would eventually blast-off at some point.... I definitely agree with Patrick that the way that this stage played-out was perplexing.

Why should UAE? - they don’t have any of the top favourites. Plapp and Buitrago are more active threats to ineos, bora and quickstep who all have more numbers than UAE in the final. Not to mention Almeida and McNulty lost about about ten seconds to Remco on the final climb so maybe weren’t feeling good (climbs don’t really suit them either).

@@jaycahow4667 It only helps them winning if Remco/Roglic pulling themselve and therefore spend more energy or if their have to spend their Team chasing and being isolated mean UAE could roll attacks. But none of that happened. Which makes sense given that the Situation was less than 30 Kilometer away from the Finish and both guys still had still some teammates near them. In terms of them beating Remco and Roglic the stage did nothing. In terms of getting the highest possible GC result they gifted Plapp and Buitrago some time.

@@animetributes6996 How many of the stage races he has ridden has he won in the same amount of time though? That’s the better statistic to use. Roglic has won GTs and one-week races because currently the best two GC riders did not challenge him. In 2022, Jonas was still doing domestique work for Roglic. The races where Roglic beat Pogacar was mainly due to him being able to team up with Vingegaard and attack with two leaders.
@harry_c
@harry_c 3 ай бұрын
@@animetributes6996 The point is that Pogi's race-craft (consistently demonstrated in one day races and stage races) is much higher than the field here. Roglics stats in GC versus Pogi have limited relevance because because (1) they have inherently different race calendars, Roglic preferencing stage races whilst Pogi mixing in one-days (2) Pogi has actually finished ahead of Roglic in more races when they've both started (3) Roglic has demonstrated less race IQ than Pogacar, and Pogacar having a better one-day record (in which race-craft makes a bigger difference). Finally, Pogi lost the last two TDF based on climbing performance vs Jonas.

It seemed way too orchestrated by remco to be a mistake because he was so calm when he let Plapp go. In my opinion they let him go and expected UAE to chase because they are currently so in control of GC and if they chased remco could just sit in behind the yellow jersey's train. Also they are only halfway through the 8 days so if remco takes yellow now he will have a target on his back with UAE's superteam and 3 leaders to control him and stop him for the next 4 GC heavy days.

Not saying that Plapp can necessarily win this, but Remco should know that full gas sprinting for 6 and 0 bonus seconds is not the way to win stage races... Remco was defensive. I like Roglic but he looked weak today, he is 40 seconds behind Remco - assuming the other stages go ahead he has peak Vingy or pogi level numbers putting 40 seconds into Remco is going to be near impossible on one stage. It wasn't up to him to make his team work after Bora pulled so hard and UAE had the numbers. The fact they didn't control Plapp and Buitrago, is something Remco regrets by now, but at least for him, given his small time gaps to those riders, it should be possible to reel them in, even with time bonuses only if he can't drop them.
