The original comic was from about 20 years before the movie, so think about how ahead of its time it really was. The writer was looking round at how the government was at that time, and wrote it in his despair and concern for the future. These things haven't improved since then

You're not far off about authoritarian governments, BUT - in this film, it's a theocratic dictatorship. Religion is an important part of how the government functions.

So we have cameras on every main street in the UK, but facial recognition cameras are rare. Too expensive to cover whole cities. Drones in London wouldn't work either because the streets are too close together and most of the housing is terraced ie connected. The best thing to use would be smart-phone tracking, but all you have to do is dump your phone to evade tracking. This depiction of society is surprisingly close to society in England (along with the depictions in Harry Brown and The National Anthem (Black Mirror).

V was actually played by two actors. Each were under the mask at one point or another. There’s also no real way to differentiate between the two in the movie as Hugo Weaving redubbed all the vocals. James Purefoy, (HBO’s Rome, Altered Carbon, Churchill) was originally hired to play V. There are scenes with him beneath the mask actually in the movie with Hugo Weaving’s voice dubbed over his. He didn’t like that his face was covered by the mask for the entirety of the characters screen time. So he quit and Hugo Weaving was brought in to replace him. It was easy to replace him as the two actors have similar builds and as the character wears a mask the entire movie, and with a little over-dubbing… Voila’… (Sorry, couldn’t resist adding the little “V” reference at the end.)

I have the original comic book series and this film went way deeper in regards to the 5th of November and the Gun Powder Treason and Plot. The comic touched on it but this film really explained what was being referenced. I didnt even know what a Guy Fawkes mask was when I read the comic. I just thought it was some theater trope that I didnt understand. This is one example of a film based upon a comic that rises above the source material. It's brilliant.

True, but the point Evey was making was that the V's torture had changed her demeanor so much that she didn't even resemble her old self. Not physically but the way she acted and carried herself.

I don't think it's a weakness of this story that they didn't provide an answer as to what follows the overthrow of the government. V literally explained why that was. The whole exercise would have been rendered pointless if he, a single person, had simply dictated how society was to be structured and how it would function. Instead he left that up to the people..... but remember, "there's no certainty, only opportunity." That's what he gave them, opportunity.

Yeah it's difficult to talk over such a movie, I do suggest you to watch here on YT the video that Cinema Therapy did on this movie because it has such an interest takes about V actually being an anti hero etc, so I highly recomand it. I don't see it as hitler was evil but like to you it can not be that way, but yes it touches so many argoments like how is being different bad (for what we know V could be black) or how some politician (I think you get who I'm talking abt in real life) can fuel the hate they need to be elected etc. Also you can't see Hugo's face for chemistry with Natalie but he respond SO well to her non verbally speaking like making a small step back, lowering the head just an inch I just love how much you can see him communicate by his non verbal behaviour and that surely makes Hugo a great actor 1:01:00 that's why he had to die, if he was still alive ppl would make him the hero or maybe give to him the chancellor position so he had to die in order to create a new world where even if you don't know (yet) what to replace it with at least now they have options

Mystery Men (1999) has an all-star cast and is hilarious. Along with this one, it's my favorite superhero movie. Mystery Men Comics was published by Fox Features Syndicate from August 1939 to February of 1942. It was an anthology title featuring super-heroes ('mystery men' was an early term for super-heroes). It is noted for introducing the character of Dan Garret, the original Golden Age Blue Beetle. DC Comics now owns the Blue Beetle, but does not own any of the other features in Mystery Men Comics. Therefore, the only stories that are indexed fully are the Blue Beetle stories.
