Every country's history is filled with stories of pivotal battles which decided that country's future - Thermopylae, Agincourt, Bannockburn, Clontarf, Normandy Beaches. Perhaps in our memories they are changed or glorified but it is their essence that prevails - a few against the mighty and rightly or wrongly their countries will never be the same and the participants will never be forgotten and never should be.

Liked what JCash did with this tune, as like Cash in Sunday Morning Coming Down or Men in Black, mainly. But, about Remember The Alamo, am sticked to the Donovan song. For like his guitar, and grew up used to his voice. And way of transmitting the failed heroicity this Ballad talks about. Remember the Cemeteries are crowded of heroes. ➖And brothers, to promote belicism is not the way, to put an end to War. As Donovan remember us in Universal Soldier. Don't become a broken toy Soldier, please. 😔🙏

Walking through the halls of the alamo, you can really imagine the battle and lives lost fighting for independence. It's deep, and this song is very touching.

There were actually 30 more that came from Gonzalez, TX. The one that couldn't cross over was Bowie who was dying from TB. My husband's great great uncle was led out of the Alamo by Suzanne Dickenson.

There s a legend about the only one that not crossed. It say it was a former napoleonic soldier. French. (not for cowardly probably. I guess simply he had experienced so many battles and doesn't feel to die there.)
My sister played this song all the time and I could have sworn one singer sang Hey Sunny Attle were killing your soldiers below. Does anyone else remember a lyric messed up like that? Now did Johnny Horton ever record this?

Great song. I too prefer Donovan's version. But the whole world should never forget the Alamo. I remember as a kid back in the 1950s, seeing the film of Davy Crockett--starring Fess Parker--in a local Dundee (Scotland) cinema. After the real battle, the Mexican soldiers were deeply moved by the stance and bravery of the defenders that they took the ashes of Crocket, Bowie & Travers, whose bodies had been ordered burnt by Santa Anna, & placed them in coffins with their names painted on them.

...and I prefer people to tell the truth about this: Mexico had abolished slavery, and the Texans (illegal aliens, by the way) were not fighting for "freedom". If they were doing so, can someone explain me why did they reinstate slavery after Texas separated from Mexico? What a convenient way to bias the real reasons of the so called "Texan Independence". So, if illegal Mexican settlers living currently in California suddenly claim that they do not like Donald's Trump government, will you consider them too as heroes if they revolt against the USA and give California back to its original owner? (Mexico, for those ignorants who don't remember it).

@@LuisGax76 ...in 1821, Mexico was est. in revolt from Spain, and Spain took it from the Indians living here. So, what are you still crying about? The fact that land can be won and lost? If you want to get back at somebody, do it to the people of Mexico for putting up great statues of Santa Anna.... the dude that sold you out, cha-ching!

" Fellow citizens and compatriots; I am besieged, by a thousand or more of the Mexicans under Santa Anna. I have sustained a continual Bombardment and cannonade for 24 hours and have not lost a man. The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise, the garrison are to be put to the sword, if the fort is taken. I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, and our flag still waves proudly from the walls. I shall never surrender or retreat" - William B Travis
