the great Denzel Washington commands this film, both as an actor and as a coach in the film. He takes over a team that has not been integrated before, in a town dead set against integration. And not only leads the team to victory, but teaches both young men and the town how to live together and work together. A truly Inspiring Film.

I recently organized my DVD collection. And I think I have most of Denzel Washington's movies in my collection (I just looked them up and compared... he has 61 movies as of September 2023, I own a fraction of that and I apologize for thinking I could claim better, LOL.) I have 22 of the 61. I also just realized I have missed out on some of his best: Devil in a Blue Dress, Courage Under Fire, The Bone Collector, Antwone Fisher, The Manchurian Candidate, Fences, and Roman J. Israel, Esq. I'ma get on watching all of these in the next few weeks. Also I know Richard has not seen Fallen. and I love this movie. We might slip that movie in during October Fright fest.

One of the most powerful movies ever made. Phenomenal acting. One of Denzel Washington’s best IMO. plus it’s based on facts of the times. Pulls you in to the movie right away.

Gosling turned 18 when they were filming and it opened on Sep 29, 2000 and Gosling turned 20 on Nov. 12, 2000. According to him he was the biggest he had ever been when he did "The Gray Man". They asked him how he did it and he said, "I couldn't eat as much as I wanted of what I like and I had to pick up a lot of really heavy stuff". His trainer said he is the most cooperative guy he has ever worked with. Simi Liu said you couldn't get to the gym before Gosling during "Barbie". Kate Bosworth (Emma) was only 16 for this movie. At the 21st anniversary of the opening she was asked about Gosling and she said something like, "he is a real sweetheart, but all of you know that already."

Sheryl Yoast passed away at 34 from a heart problem. One of the things, among others, that they don't point out is how good the defense really was, I think they were only scored on in one game.

Gerry did play the entire season in real life. The accident happened sometime after the State Championship.

It's the fact that Ryan Hurst (aka Opie from SoA) played this role well.

Calling someone a "fruitcake" in 1970 meant gay and it was not like today.

In about 2000 my sister sent me undercover to a Concerned Women of America meeting in Houston, TX (where I grew up). The speaker was an assistant Texas Attorney General and she talked about how to keep gays from getting married. In order to make it legal to consummate a marriage one person has to be vulnerable to pregnancy and the other to child support so sodomy had to stay illegal in Texas only for same sex couples.

Still the norm in smaller schools, my school only had about 800 students. I only came off the field for kick off, and on-side kick return. And I loved every minute of it.

We relegated to a high school boy mindset. Shoot us. It's part of the HS/growing up process. Young men and adult men can be simple-minded when it comes to our expectations and needs. You're not wrong but it is also, honest.

@MajorProgress you're not wrong, but you're not highschoolers either. You're mature men who could choose to lead young men. You could choose to do anything, but I hope you choose to do better. Good men require it of themselves.

Robert Altman directed M*A*S*H. Robert Duvall played Frank Burns in the movie. There are tons of stories about Robert Altman's direction in this movie. Almost like it was a wild west saloon style of filmmaking. That probably left a bad taste in Robert Duvall's mouth about weird directors. Or actors not being prepared to do a scene.
