@lwmson2 жыл бұрын
Actually, he doesn't. In real life, he was said to be a real asshole who was extremely abusive to his players, so much so that he was eventually fired from T.C. as coach in 1979. The Hollywood image of him that was portrayed by Denzel was a watered down version of him that he was able to cash in on his own personal gain.

@@lwmson lol and you think his racist staff and half his students weren’t assholes towards him? He’s a legend and should have more recognition because what he was able to do at the time that he did with all the racism and adversity set against him, he still came out victorious and was able to unite a team that hated each other at a forced integrated high school. And they also went undefeated their first year together. Regardless of how much of an “Asshole” he was, he made history and brought people together that never would have if it weren’t for him. Maybe he had to be the bad guy and absorb all the hate so that the players would see him as the ‘big bad wolf’ and not hate each other so much. Gave them a common Enemy. I just give respect where it’s due.

The one thing I always loved about football was that it is the ultimate team sport. I played HS football starting in 1973 and it was during a time when there was still a lot of racial unrest including race riots at our HS. Our football team was also undefeated that year and integrated about 50/50. With us it was always we were on the football team first. We had each others backs on and off the field. It taught be the true meaning of brotherhood. We never looked at each other as black/white, just teammates going to war each week completely dependent on each other.

But do to both taking a stand they both equally contributed 50% to make this a successful journey, that we all got to be apart of.
