Like if your gonna Bundle all three games, why not... actually bundle the three games? Like there are ps2 collections that have the three games and then the. "X-men update later because FOX." If players KNEW wolverine and company would join when they could, I think more people would have got the game. Instead Capcom.was rushed to send out MVC infinite, players hated X men being gone and the [honestly] rushed game and never bought it, so when the X Men COULD join Capcom said. "Nah they dont want it." And supposedly scrapped either a bunch of DLC or a whole new version of the game that was Waiting for Disney to get the X-men, which they did.

Still mad about Capcom killing the franchise, honestly we need a new game damnit, i still think if they took on the HD remix idea and fleshed it out to be more of a directors cut of the previous entries and included content that wasn't in a DarkStalkers game before, to cut content, Like that pirate lady that was planned for one of the DarkStalkers games but was cut and later repurposed for Marvel Vs Capcom 2, that would be how i would go with it, so yeah new fighters and arenas to play in, as well as a legacy story mode of sorts would be pretty cool. Honestly if we can at least get Resurrection ported to recent consoles, with the button imputs updated so you don't have to think too much about those terrible move lists, that's what killed Resurrection for me.

@SNES Nes Yes Chibi Robo was a Nintendo series, the games were basically 3d puzzle adventure games where you play as a tiny robot solving various tasks with a battery based time limit. After constantly dropping the bomb on selling it (first game was released near the end if the Gamecube's lifespan, DS sequel was sold exclusively at Wal-Mart, Wii rerelease was japan only, another chibi robo game being japan only, and then releasing a side game on the 3ds), they decided to make Chibi Robi into a generic 2d platformer on the 3ds and said that if that game didn't sell well then they will never do anything with Chibi Robo ever again. Tl:dr, Chibi Robo was a Nintendo adventure series that got the Darkstalkers treatment.

So yeah, if Capcom fixes their Fighting game problem, then they will take more risks, heck have somebody crowdfund a spiritual successor that they actually make just to prove to Capcom a point, it worked for MegaMan's comeback, so why not another franchise that's dormant for a return in some form.

we have had several darkstalkers themed crossover costumes in Street Fighter V, and DarkStalkers characters have made regular appearances in crossover games. how could you not have heard of DarkStalkers in a while when they haven't gone anywhere. they may not have had a new game, but they have kept a presence in Capcom fighting games.

Darkstalkers will forever be my favorite fighting game. A new game would never sell as well as SF, but if it was good and made with love it's fanbase would be absolutely die hard. Sometimes that's better than a box office smash. IMO Capcom is top dog right now in the industry putting out hit after hit, would love for a little of that overflow to land in a Darkstalkers game, we don't need SFV graphics, in fact, i think it would benefit from something more akin to DBFZ. Feel me Capcom, FEEL ME.

Particularly with all of Capcom's current fighting franchises going to 3D over the last decade, it would be a breath of fresh air to have one high-quality 2D animated fighting series. And if any Capcom series really leaned into its 2D animation, it was Darkstalkers. I could see it getting some attention and being popular by standing-out on its presentation, even beyond any existing popularity of the franchise itself which it definitely does have.

Darkstalkers inspired me alot in my teen years. I created my own monster characters and stories, and really wouldn't be the kind of artist I am today without this game. So it really hurts my soul that this game has become so forgotten. I think a game about sexy monsters would sell exceptionally well for both new and old fans... but you know big companies, they like to stick to what they know. Thanks for covering one of my favourite games of all time.

I have a hard time reconciling that the events of Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, Captain Commando, and Aliens Vs Predators occur within the same universe together canonically without resorting to the alternate universe narrative.

@Ghost_Troupe Sakura was only added to the first Rival Schools as a bit of fan service as well as "insurance" that it would sell because Capcom wasn't convinced. Rival Schools was always meant to be in a separate universe than Street Fighter. It wouldn't be any different than if they made a new Darkstalkers and threw Akuma and Dante into it. That said, they could easily throw DS characters into SF like they did with RS. SF has basically become Capcom's KOF at this point. They could easily go for some dimensional rift storyline or something like with KOFXIV. That's basically what they did with the Street Fighter vs Darkstalkers comics. Or they could do the KOF thing and say that the Darkstalkers characters exist in Street Fighter, but the world of SF and the world of DS are different - in the same way that the Art of Fighting characters should be 20 years older than the Fatal Fury characters, but the AoF characters are only 2 years older than the FF characters in KOF. I mean hell, Gill is as powerful if not more powerful than Jedah. The characters wouldn't be that out of place compared to Blanka, Necro and the various other weirdos.

Here's a fun fact, Guillermo del Toro originally pitched The Shape of Water to Universal Pictures as a remake of Creature from the Black Lagoon from which the character of Rikuo was based upon. del Toro was a huge fan of the film when he was a child and always thought that the Gill-man should have ended up with the female lead. Universal however turned down his proposal and so Guillermo del Toro instead decided to turn the project into a original film divorced from Universal's 'Creature of the Black Lagoon' IP.

This makes me really sad. Darkstalkers was one of the IPs I loved the most growing up. I collected the action figures from toy stores in the 90's that were packaged in the capcom match up packs. Years back at a convention I paid for a Lillith sketch by Long Vo (Udon Ent. artist), and I've bought all the comics that I could and the anime as well because I was a weeb. Just hearing some of the music from the game gives me heavy nostalgia. I really wish they'd do something creative with the series. Even if they don't make another game, which would be ideal, I hope they give the IP some life in another media format again. It's just so well done and would be a terrible waste if they just let it gather dust forever.

Agreed. I've been saying this a lot recently, but now that the world is so used to J-Horror and cryptids from other cultures, there's tons of new characters they can add to the series to keep things exciting. Hell, I dug up the lore guide on gamefaqs and there's a TON of world building they put in the behind the scenes and guides etc, but not in games. They could draw from that for story and new characters if needed. The series, if given a chance could keep running solidly for YEARS to come with sequel after sequel. There's so much uniqueness that this series can offer, but Capcom only uses two-three of them at the most only in crossovers and they stopped when it felt like the series was just getting started.

Yes, it was, early this year a Capcom producer already said that they were producing DS 4, but halted and changed plans turning the project into SFV, they did that because the time around the end of SFIV was the worst economical moments Capcom has ever passed, and they needed something quick to recover, so a SF game would be a safer choice as it has a bigger community and the DS test result wasn't good enough to show that DS game could be the life saver of Capcom, they did SFV and rushed to it, and we all know what was the resolution of it

If they were thinking about target audience, this reasoning is mindboggling. They had already another version of SFIV to be released. The Street Fighter audience would be busy with that for 18, maybe 24 months giving it time to breathe. Going with Darkstalkers in the meanwhile would mean making the most of the new SFIV, selling to some of those who wouldn't be interested in SFIV and to fighting game fans looking for something fresh. Choosing SFV actively undermined the new SFIV and alienated consumers that didn't really care for more SF.

Probably still one of my fave fighting games, never got to play the sequel. I got really excited seeing Hayato in Capcom vs SNK Match of The Millennium when I picked that up years after.

As much as I love Street Fighter, MvC, Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Soul Caliber, Mortal Kombat, Skullgirls, and DBZF, Darkstalkers was, is, and will always be my favorite fighting game. It was colorful but not tacky, it was bombastic but also grounded, it was flawlessly animated, tightly controlled, polished to a shine, and was the closest to fighting game perfection we’ve ever gotten. I spent hours in the arcade with Darkstalkers, I mastered almost every character, I loved this game. They captured lightning in a bottle with Darkstalkers, and I genuinely think we’ll never see another game quite like it.

@@gentlguy1101 Capcom's Universe is odd enough where they could Crossover practically with any one of their Franchises without skipping a beat and besides those with a direct tether to Street Fighter like Final Fight & Rival Schools if we count Spin-Offs & Comics the next Capcom Series to have the most Crossovers with SF would be Darkstalkers so it's not entirely out of place if they decided to do it 🤔

@@OmniNexuz If there's a direct tether or a logic reason for it to be shared universe, imagine a shared universe of Darkstalkers, Devil May Cry, Okami and God Hand cause one of the main plot points on those are demons of course. But the point is, there's no logic for Street Fighter to be the Avengers or Capcom to be Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I think after the PS2 era many Japanese developers couldnt keep up with the rate of sequels that western developers were pushing. When they tried to outsource their IPs it got bad or mixed reactions and they just decided to "give up" on a majority of their catalogs.

If Capcom ever brings Darkstalkers back, it should be kept entirely separate from the SF universe. Instead, Power Stone should become to Darkstalkers what Final Fight became to Street Fighter. Characters like Rouge, Jack, Kraken & Valgas could easily make the jump to the Darkstalkers franchise. They could even use characters/concepts from the Monster Hunter series, like the Monster Hunter fighter from MvC: Infinite or a Rathalos Rider.

But I would love for them to take a break and do a Darkstalkers or a Rival School project for modern generation consoles before the next SF installmet. I rewatch this video every month or so as a reminder that all the praises of “Capcom is BACK!” mean nothing so long as they keep franchises like Darkstalkers, Rival Schools, Viewtiful Joe, and so many others locked away on older platforms. I can’t fault them for not wanting to make new games in niche franchises, that’s their prerogative, but to keep the older games from reaching fans old and new is baffling.

If Capcom had done better US marketing, I'd totally have both heard of and immediately bought Resurrection, because this series looks great. All of us were super into MK at the time, looks like they didn't bother trying to compete

I read an interview saying there was some interest in bring it back, but some of the transformations in the game are REALLY hard to pull of in 3D, and doing it in real time with their current fighting game engine would be impossible. And, I mean, that's true, but I think we'd be happy with 2D images for a NEW game.

That's gaming nowadays. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, not every series can continue/be treated the best it can by its company. F-Zero has been willingly gone according to Nintendo, and look at series like StarFox and Virtua Fighter, on life support, with crossover appearances and occasional new games that are remakes (reimaginings, etc, not moving forward with the storyline). Coincidentally, they both had their last unique entries around the same time (2006-07).

I still wish they'd bring back Darkstalkers. Not because im a huge fan of the series, but because Since SF4, they've done Street Fighter 4 > Marvel 3 > Street Fighter (x Tekken) > Street Fighter 4 (again) > Street Fighter 5 > Marvel Infinite (which felt like a "this'll sell no matter what" situation) and now it seems they're next game is gonna be either Street Fighter 6, or another crossover. It really sucks that their mentality seems to be "If it wont sell on name alone, dont make it at all." Especially when they have so many franchises like Power Stone or Rival Schools that would be really fun, and people HAVE expressed interest in making, but Capcom said "no" because, well, its not Street Fighter or Marvel.

Hands down my favourite fighting games by a long stretch (and I am not even a real fighting game man). But Capcom missed their window of opportunity. A new entry in the SF4 style would have been amazing but I don't feel anything for the SF5/SF6 style of graphics. It wouldn't be cartoony enough for the Darkstalkers series.

I mean... Financially, it makes sense. 2D Fighters are kinda niche, and they've already have the Street Fighter and Vs. series... Add a 3rd, and they would be competing with themselves. There is a reason why they dropped a dozen of fighting games series, as well as Dino Crissis, and dozens of more experimental IPs like Viewtiful Joe and Okami... Sticking to Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and their most popular IP in each genre is a safer bet. I mean, go take a look at their best selling games, and see how diverse their top 20 games are. Unlike with resurrections, there's way more incentive to get it since there's several classic games that haven't seen the light of day in decades besides just re-releases of old Darkstalker games. And they actually bothered to advertise this one properly, unlike with Resurrections which they seemed hellbent on sweeping under the rug at every chance they got, while at the same time setting unrealistic expectations for a re-release's success. Seriously, it's like they made Resurrections shitty and barely advertised it just so they could say "well if you LOVE this franchise so much, you should have spent money on this" and not bother with this franchise ever again.

The sad thing is Capcom does lazy ports for all their games now, and half the time they aren't even definitive/complete ports and just straight up roms. Darkstalkers Resurrection didn't feature a complete Darkstalkers 3 or even Dee at the very least, the MegaMan collections feature no Complete Works content, and the Street Fighter Collection has the most bare bones vanilla ports of all their games, while superior versions exist on PS2 even!

I am disappointed that companies refuse to listen to the audience and prefers to focus on sales. Why not create a poll and ask players which title they will love to see a release on, the public knows what they want. As much as I adore Street Fighter, the other titles in Capcom's library should not be neglected, Rival Schools and Darkstalkers included.

I'm still of the opinion that Resurrection being a thing was good, especially because of the good netcode and tutorials, and bringing the old games to a new audience, as well as being accessible to, at the time, current gen consoles. Gotta take into account that there's not many of the original arcade versions left or people who still have working copies of the old games. But as a test for the demand for a new game? It was a terrible idea.
