She was known for being extremely private….but she was a wonderful woman and actress….she had a sharp wit..and openly admitted she never got over losing her husband Beverly….my favourite was “The Lady in The Van”….which is so appropriate nowadays with so many homeless and displaced people around the world. She was quite simply a one of a kind treasure.

I loved how she could play so mean and grumpy... but with a smirk and a gleam in her eye. Go with god, Crispy.

Whilst filming Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, she was getting treatment for cancer. That is some strong will to be able to continue to film, whilst having treatment for cancer. What a woman!

How I'd love to have seen her in Private Lives, or any Coward play for that matter. She was made for it. Her Broadway debut was in New Faces of 1956 which is where she met comedic actress Alice Ghostly (so hilarious in Designing Women) which is why she is the one who accepted her first Oscar for her. I'm thankful I was able to see Dame Maggie on Broadway in a Stoppard play. She's been a favorite of mine since the 1960s. Thank you, Britain, for another acting legend. She will be deeply missed on this side of the Atlantic as well.

I was so lucky and saw her in Private Lives in the West End with her then husband Robert Stephens back in the sixties and she was SENSATIONAL. The last time I saw her on stage was in Lettuce and Lovage, but I've seen all her films and thought her brilliant.
