I didn’t know of Franklin, but I can appreciate that AEF rehabilitated him and gave him a second chance at life. He looked truly happy there and I’m sure he’ll be missed dearly. RIP.

It's really great that despite not being able to be completely free he still had the opportunity to do most everything his instincts guided him to do....like reproduce. He fulfilled his duty and mission on earth and that wouldn't of been possible without the foundation. They deserve much support. We should all think about donating to the foundation.

Heartfelt tribute💙. This is why the AEF is such an important organization. 26 years you took care of him after being shot needlessly, illegally by a worthless human. You at AEF righted the wrong and turned his loss around. Giving him a full and long life with many offspring and a mate to love him. Happiness and peace he would never have had unless saved and brought to you. I hope Lady Independence is taking the loss okay. Thank you for the lovely pictures chronicling his life and journey at AEF. I hope everyone who cared for him is feeling some sense of satisfaction in the sadness for a 26 year job well done💙. Rest in peace Frank and be remembered. My profile pic is of my lost Eagle Baroness, a White Tailed Eagle that I loved so I keep her profile pic here as a constant tribute. Remembering the Eagles we've loved and lost is all we can do for them after they pass on to fly high and free forever and we'll see them again in heaven someday🙏.

Well said. Such a beautiful tribute to such a faithful mate. He enjoyed his baths. I cans see him coming up the hill with food for the babies and his mate. He has received his heavenly wings and is flying high. Blessings and thank you to the AEF , Dolly Parton and the many people who made his life a blessing to all of us who loved and cared. A beautiful tribute to Frank. AEF announced on Mar 8 on FB that Indy had also passed away, just about a week after Frank. So now they are together once again. RIP, Frank and Indy. 💓💓

Someone who hates America & wants to make a statement as such... it is a federal offence last I knew to do anything to an eagle i.e. harm it as its our national bird but I'm against harm toward animals unless it's for food or a problem animal meaning killing people.. but sucks anybody that would shoot a bird of prey is a dick anyway

My heart is broken and I am crying. Thankyou to AEF for taking them in and caring for both Frank and Indy. The video was beautiful. Rest in peace and fly free together forever. I hope you erect that monument to them. Sometimes their babies come back to nest in the area. Are they tagged? If they come back I hope you recognize them and put a camera in the nest. Awh, I'm very saddened to hear about Franklin. I often wondered what happened to *Frank & Indy* I would tune into the live cam and they had just disappeared. Oh, he was a beautiful male, mate & father. Your right and I'm glad you didn't leave any details out, Frank loved his baths. Thank you for the years you gave me with Frank & Indy. I will always remember them with much love. It really fascinated me how they lived as normal lives as they could without being able to fly. Thank you for giving them a wonderful life full of life, laugh & love. He was the best Dad ever always sitting on the nest rails when Indy did not allow him in the nest. I will always love them both. @@katydid1014 OMGosh, well they kind of went together, almost. I'm again very saddened to hear that, I used to ask about them. I missed the facebook post. They were a beautiful, awesome & loving couple. I loved that they got to live at the sanctuary in a some what normal life. They were not caged, they ate(food fairies) & lived well with other eagles and they got to do the whole nesting experience & have the cutest little babies. They were able to experience the family life at least for a short time. Thank you Katydid for responding & letting me know about Indy. I love them very much & followed them faithfully. 💗🦅🦅💗

@@youkie5321 You're very welcome! Here's the info from AEF's FB page on March 8: It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Independence, more commonly known as Indy. On March 4th, AEF staff were alerted to Indy after witnessing a fall and entered the aviary to assist. Indy was suspected of sustaining a fracture to her previous injury site and was immediately transported to UT Veterinary Clinic where emergency surgery was performed. Unfortunately, Indy was unable to successfully recover from surgery. AEF is currently working with USFWS to gain approval to cremate Indy alongside Franklin (her mate) who also recently passed away. In the interim, plans are underway to erect a monument at American Eagle Foundation headquarters, paying tribute to the legacy of Frank and Indy in bald eagle conservation and repopulation.

The monument of them together would also be *AWESOME* My bucket list is to visit the sanctuary at Dollywood and see the beautiful, beautiful eagles that live there and their wonderful caregivers. Thank you for those beautiful memories, and tears. I didn’t know of Franklin, but he had a full life, albeit not the one nature intended. He also made a life for Indy, whose life had changed also. Their line continues today thanks to the selfless work you and people like you do. Are their offspring tagged? Can we follow their lives/nests? As an adult male, he probably had a nest, mate and eaglets when he was shot. I hope Karma is good to that person. ❤️🦅🦅🇦🇺
