Remembering Jim Lange

Very sad to hear of the passing of my friend and game show colleague Jim Lange. Jim was a very popular and successful game show host as well as radio DJ. Here is a brief video of Jim where he tells a few brief stories about the one show that made him a household name, "The Dating Game".

Miss you Jim. I remember watching The Dating Game when I was a little kid in the early 1970s, watching it on a 27 inch Magnavox B/W TV Stereo Phono Combo in Southern California on channel 7 at 2:30. That was cool. By the way, my parents bought that TV in 1962. RIP Jim

Jim Lange was one incredible game show host. I personally hadn't known about the time of his passing, but he is still alive in my heart nonetheless. As a little boy, I was a full-fledged game show buff. And I can remember so many from then. One year in particular, 1975, game shows ruled (there was reportedly as many as 35 to 40 in '75 ALONE!). Jim Lange hosted two shows, one after the other, that were short-lived but were two of my very favorites, Spin-Off and Give 'N Take. I would love to see more episodes of these shows brought to KZbin (Pretty Please?)

I watched quite a few of game shows he hosted, Name THat Tune, Bullseye, $1,000,000.00 Chance of a Lifetime were the ones I mainly watched back in the day.

According to some old posts on the Game Show Forum, Puzzle Roulette was infact a reworking of Catch Phrase (which, as a side note, was being considered by ABC for their lineup); after that pilot, Pasetta made it more like Catch Phrase and pitched it to CBS as "The Puzzle Game"- Lange was still host. Hopefully Wink and his crew can post the whole Puzzle Roulette pilot eventually.

I remember him hosting triple threat and 1,000,000 chance of a lifetime when I was a kid and watching him hosting the dating game on game show network. in 2005 I have never knew where he is at and havent seen him on television until he was on hollywood squares with tom bergeron. Plus he played for charity on Scrabble. RIP Jim Lange

He hosted the LA / Orange County version of “Bowling for Dollars” on Los Angeles TV Station KTLA Channel 5 at 7:30pm from September 6, 1976 to March 4, 1977.
