Good to see someone giving Johnny a nice rememberance. Very few music outlets touched on his passing. He was the best fill in for Sebastian Bach. If you see how Bad good singers like Tony Harnell and ZP sound trying to mimic Sebastian Bach is gives you a further appreciation of the job Solinger did RIP

He really was a great fit for the band sounding enough like Bach for the diehards but always providing a new sound and moving the band forward at the same time. He will be missed.

Thanks for the tribute. Johnny and I were best friends for 15+ yrs. We started Solinger in 1988 after he talked me into coming back to Dallas. We did a few reunion shows, the last being in 2016. Listed as Solinger Redux on KZbin. It shocked me when he died. A tribute show never came together. I miss him. Thanks for this video. Mott

I remember Johnny and his band Solinger playing the Dallas music scene in the mid 80s. Saw him many times playing same venues as Pantera.

That was a sad day. I remember seeing him live right when he joined the band. Was always a big fan of him and the material he did with both Skid Row and his band Solinger. So sad to see him die so young.

Just seeing this after 2 years. I was going through my own health issues when I found out Johnny wasnt doing so well, then later, passed. That news sucked. I love "Thick Skin". I STILL crank it! Saw them (Skid Row) for the first time in 2003 with Vince Neil and Poison on the "Harder, Louder, Faster" Tour. Saw Skid several times after. Johnny did a great job, I thought. He wasnt trying to be Sebastian Bach, who I think, is STILL awesome! Johnny was himself. Met him a couple times. Down to Earth. Humble. I still miss him. Ill still rock the albums I have with him on vocals. Thank you for the great music, Johnny!

RIP my brother! Johnny and I were fraternity brothers since 1985. His band SOLINGER was a force in the early 90’s around DFW. 🎶😎❤️

Very sad and shocking news. I’ve been a fan of the band since the beginning so when they reunited work Johnny I was right there and enjoyed his presence in the band even though he was a different influence. RIP

This breaks my heart. I guess I'll always have the memories: My first Skid Row concert was in a club, but it was PACKED. Phil Varone (Saigon Kick drummer) was with them at the time and I just couldn't wait to meet him for real (we'd chatted a little bit before that). I'm short, so I parked myself right up front, smushed against the stage, between Johnny and Scotti. At one point, I was just singing away when I got something salty on my tongue. I realized, believe it or not, Jonny had somehow flung a drop of sweat into my mouth. Crazy, huh? When I noticed their set list, I saw they were about to do "Makin' a Mess", so I handed Johnny a note saying I was from Kalamazoo. He hollered to Phil "Hey Varoni--this chick's from Kalamazoo!!" A bit later, Scotti was doing the customary guitar pick tossing, but everybody else was grabbing them before I could. Scotti noticed this and started HURLING them right AT me, but I still was unable to get one. This pissed him off, so he crouched down right in front of me and put the sucker right in my hand. How cool is that? After the show, he bent it with his teeth as a memento. Phil & I got VERY close after that, so the next time Skid Row came around, he took my friend & I upstairs to party with the band. When Jonny came up, he got behind the bar and poured the drinks himself. That was so cool. Johnny had HUGE shoes to fill, but he did a great job trying.

Well it certainly is taking Skid Row way to long to release an album with ZP Theart. At this point I’d be fine with anyone singing if they would release new material. As for Johnny I’d hope he would form another band in the vein of Skid Row. But I’m glad he followed his heart and pursued his passion.

@@BrendonSnyder i personally do not thick Zippy is a good fit for Skid Row. His vocals are way too clean and have none of the grit of seb or johnny. Zippy can sing high notes but....i dunno, ive seen them live twice (once by accident!) with Zippy fronting them and he just didnt impress me. They seem to be getting along which is great but they promised a new album years ago now , they kept saying they were working with outside song writers (a mistake if you ask me) and i heard they went back in the studio with a new producer? (they originally talked up working with Wagener, but he is retired now i believe)

I love Thickskin and the two EPs. Revolutions Per Minute, not so much. I loved him in the band though, and this one hurt.

I agree, RPM does not hold up to the rest of their catalogue. It’s lacking in quality of material, consistency of style, and production. It was quite a shock when I first heard it. I’ve tried to go back and like it over and over but it just doesn’t work for me with the exception of a few tracks. Shame, because the other recorded output with Solinger is so good.

I really like the song Ghost from Thickskin. Of course the track Thick Is The Skin jams too. I saw them with Johnny 3 times and while he wasn't Bas, he was pretty solid. RIP Johnny.

No one can ever replace Sebastian Bach, but Johnny stepped in and did a great job. A credit to the performer he was. RIP.

Thickskin ROCKS HARD!!! RPM-MEH! I agree both the United Word Rebellion eps were GREAT, and IMO he sounded like he was really coming into his own vocally on these. RIP sir.

I really like thickskin and the 2 E.P.s he did with skid row. Revolutions per minute was terrible but hardly his fault. Not sure of anything else he did but he was a good singer, i never got to see him live but friends of mine did and said he was very good. RIP

I’ve yet to see Skid Row with ZP Theart. But I agree his vocals don’t seem right for the band. So my hopes aren’t high for the new album they have been recording for the last 6 years and yet to release.

I remember being so disappointed and letdown by this band when they separated from Bas. I never even once listened to a single thing they put out after that, not even just to try it out. I didn’t even know they remade I Remember You until watching this video. Well, I just listened to that song. I made it through about two bars of it and had to turn it off. Blasphemy. Nothing against Sollinger. It’s not his fault. I saw him with Skid Row once, not on purpose, as they were opening for another band I wanted to see. He did an okay job and all, but I would not have gone to see them on purpose. When I first heard Youth Gone Wild I remember thinking what a future this band had. It’s nice Bas and his former band mates both kept going after the split, but it will forever be a shame to me that it happened. I only own their stuff with Bas and I plan to keep it that way. Just can’t do it. 🤷🏼
