Remembering Kargil: At Point 4355, remnants of a hasty Pakistani retreat | Economic Times

Nearly four weeks before the preparations for celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Kargil war began, the Indian Army discovered remnants of Pakistan Army equipment, ammunition and bunkers on a hill top in Dras, which appear to have been left in a hurry in the face of Indian onslaughts in 1999. अरे काफिर, मैं कारगिल युद्ध के दौरान पाकिस्तानी सेना एसएसजी की वन कमांडो बटालियन की अल्फा कंपनी की बी टीम की कमान संभाल रहा था। मेरी टीम टोलोलिंग की पहाड़ी पर तैनात थी और हम टोलोलिंग की पहाड़ी से नीचे उतरते थे और हर रोज भारतीय सेना के ठिकानों पर छापा मारते थे। इन छापों में हम भारतीय सेना के सभी सैनिकों को मार देते थे, उनके सारे हथियार लूट लेते थे और बाद में ईंधन डंप में आग लगा दी और हम 26 जुलाई 1999 के बाद भी ऐसा कर रहे हैं। यह सबूत है कि कारगिल युद्ध पाकिस्तान ने जीता था और इस विक्रम बत्रा को मेरी कंपनी के अधिकारी कैप्टन अमर हुसैन शहीद ने 4 जुलाई 1999 को नरक में भेज दिया था। आमने-सामने की लड़ाई में. उन्होंने एक भी पाकिस्तानी सैनिक को नहीं मारा. 4 जुलाई 1999 को प्वाइंट 4875 पर हमने उन्हें मार डाला और 7 जुलाई 1999 को मेरी यूनिट के एक अधिकारी ने उनके शव को पहाड़ी से नाले में फेंक दिया। भारत झूठ बोलता है कि विक्रम बत्रा 7 जुलाई को मारे गए, विक्रम बत्रा हमारे हाथों 7 जुलाई नहीं बल्कि 4 जुलाई 1999 को मरे।۔आबे ओ'साले काफिर कारगिल युद्ध के दौरान मेरी ड्यूटी टूलिंग टॉप पर थी। तुलुलिंग टॉप पर पाकिस्तानी सेना की एनएलआई रेजिमेंट की 6वीं बटालियन की अल्फा कंपनी और हमारे स्पेशल सर्विस ग्रुप ने कब्जा कर लिया था। टूलिंग टॉप पर मेजर अनवर खान नाम का कोई अधिकारी नहीं था. इससे पहले मेजर तारिक शहीद तुलुलिंग में तैनात थे, जिन्हें 13 जून को एक भारतीय स्नाइपर ने दूर से गोली मार दी थी और उन्हें मेरी कंपनी के एक स्नाइपर ने मार गिराया था। फिर 23 जून को मेजर वहाब तुलुलिंग टॉप पर पहुंचे। मेजर वहाब 29 जून को शहीद हो गए, लेकिन 29 जून तक उन्होंने राजपूताना राइफल्स की दूसरी बटालियन के 1200 सैनिकों को रोक लिया और 150 भारतीय सैनिकों को मार डाला। तुलु लिंग टॉप पर केवल 40 पाकिस्तानी सैनिक तैनात थे और भारतीय सेना ने पहले ग्रेनेडियर्स रेजिमेंट की 18 बटालियन के 1200 सैनिकों को यहां भेजा जो विफल रहे।

I'm a Shillong citizen of rajasthani decent so I've felt oppressed in Shillong by tribes of meghalaya when i was a kid. It was drummed into me by my father that i was an Indian and no matter anyone said anything i had equal rights. I could not understand this, all i thought was to leave the northeast. But when i witnessed first hand the way delhi people would behave with people of NE look i was shocked. Then i decided i wouldn't run i would never allow anyone to degrade me. Now when i come back to Shillong even if someone misbehaves with me bcoz of my lineage i don't care. Coz now i know and understand that untraveled, unexposed people do it. So i simply pretend to not notice or understand what they are implying. Now i cannot compare what you guys have had to face with me. But the truth is we have equal rights to do everything that any other citizen has. So fuck them if they are willing to educate themselves about your culture, good if not don't give a damm. But if someone crosses the legal line of misconduct then go to the authorities. Push it up to the national level then there will be action against the perps. And now there are people like me call it the NE "diaspora" if and when such an issue comes up we are here in Delhi, Jaipur, calcutta, Mumbai and others to give weight to the subject. But one thing i learned that i was never a target for those guys from Shillong who had lived outside. So the same applies everywhere. According to the Kargil War wiki page en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kargil_order_of_battle this was the OrBat of Indian and Pakistani military. While from the Indian side 3rd infantry Division fought with its 2 Inf. brigades, 8th Mountain division fought with its 8 mountain art. brigade, 4 different Infantry brigades, plus a para commando brigade, and 14 different Battalions. Pakistan only had 6 Battalions, of which 4 were from the Northern Light Infantry. India also employed its Air Force. and the conflict went on for 45 days. Imagine what would have happened if Pakistan also a division level force there.

The moot question left unanswered in the Kargil war is that how come the Indian army came down leaving these posts unattended knowing well how crooked our enemy is ? Even if these posts were somehow to be abandoned in the winters, there should have been some airborne surveillance of these heights to ensure that they were not captured by our crooked enemy. What was the military intelligence doing when the Pakistani army captured these posts in Kargil ?

Lets make an analysis. A huge number of Pakistani troops infiltrated by crossing LoC. It was an intelligence failure for India which couldn't detect such a mass movement of enemy. Pakistani troops were equipped with lite weapons. They were quite low in number. Had no aerial support by PAF neither political support by their own govt. Still they fought hard till last man standing, last breath and last bullet without food and ammunition. They obeyed the orders of their seniors without asking any question. Their act must be condemned but their loyalty to their duty is unquestionable. They faced heavy artillry, fighter jets, laser guided missiles, cluster bombs, gunship helicopters and huge waves of Indian regiments and still it took India three months and US interference to recapture their posts and cease fire. Indian casualties were countless. The fight was between 10 against 300 and still took Indian forces to fight through tooth and nail to finish them. I pay my tribute to these brave soldiers for their bravery, their dedication and determination, their sacrifice, and their fight till death sentiment. Hats off to such brave sons of their mothers

This is a timeline of what actually happened - it will piss off both Indians and Pakistanis Pakistani army dressed as troops infiltrated and took up heights in Kargil. Indians found out and spent massive amounts of effort in ejecting them - costly in terms of lives lost and airplanes and other items. Nawaz Sharif had no idea about the infiltration initially. Clinton then put massive pressure on the Pakistanis to pull back which they did by cutting off supplies to their soldiers in the frontline’s meaning they had to pull back and the Indians declared victory. Clinton when visiting India during the early 2000s said to a group of journalists - I was responsible for ending Kargil. Vajpayee did not correct him
