Ken was one of the nicest persons I’ve ever known! I used to run into him at a few grocery stores near his home in central Calif. His smile was infectious and he left me with good memories of our conversations. His Old Blue Cadillac and many different colored cowboy boots. Rest In Peace Ken, Thanks for the memories! 😊

When I was a teenager, I told my parents as we watched a Gunsmoke episode that I really liked Festus Hagen. My Mom was appalled, Festus was not husband material as far as she could see but I told her, he was a good man, a man of good character, decent, honorable. I still think I was right, looks in a guy aren't everything. Not hardly. I never met my cowboy, too bad. But I bet Ken Curtis was just like Festus Hagen in real life; he always seemed like such a nice person, someone you could trust, someone who would be a good friend. As far as Festus' other attraction, I liked his mule who shared my name.

Michael Perkins There was an episode where Festus was shot, not sure if he would survive. First person he sees is Doc. He tells Doc he’s the ugliest person he ever saw. Doc says (with tears in his eyes because his friend was ok), he just described me to a T. Great show with equally extraordinarily gifted actors and actresses. My dads favorite show, now I watch because it is a classic.
