He definitely earned it, and so much more. It surprises me that Ramon is not spoken of in the same way as Ali, Tyson, Fury, Khabib but he also had longevity. Who done it in Thailand, against the best Thia fighters, a hostile referee and the whole country, its years of experience and funding against him. And still came out on top. Truly one of, if not the GOAT. It would make a great film, and a good kick-boxer can be made to look good like with some movie magic. They made Segal look good, a world class fighter, with the best co-ordinations, experts etc could almost do him justice. Floating tiger, hidden diamond.

Worthwhile documentary. Great job! Cor's really opened up to you, too. I agree, there is a greater story that needs to be told; whether in-depth documentary, movie and/or book. I first discovered Ramon Dekkers a few years ago while watching a video with Bas Rutten. Rutten spoke reverentially of Dekker and his influence. Years later, I still return to watch Dekker fight/training videos. Sheesh! The power this Cat could generate was awe-inspiring! And that's just watching a video. I can't imagine what it must have been like to be ringside for a Dekker bout and witness the power firsthand. Or, be Dekker's opponent, and be on the receiving end of his merciless skills. Reverence continues from Vancouver, Canada.

I remember seeing the Dekker v Superlex dutch v Thailand bill on tv in Bangkok year of 91...on the public bus the next day even the office girls were talking about this blue eyed blonde haired farang...Thais could not believe it, the contrast and how competitive it was. He battered Super Lec for 5 rounds and lost on points. Dekker got his nose smashed with an elbow and didn't even blink. Super lec was super human though, the punishment he took, makes me wonder what he was on? I started training Muay Thai after that in Koh Samui. There was a poster from the front page of Muay Siam in the gym (the print magazine for all Thai Boxing news). it was Dekker with his arm round Super Lec facing the camera super lec back to the camera in the ring after the fight, it was an Iconic picture and it always gave me inspiration to train when i looked at it. RIP....one of kind! bygone era!
@contactinspect7 жыл бұрын
I was living in Koh Samui at that time, i traveled up to Bangkok for the Coban fight. I owned Lamai Gym and setup Muay Thai too...did we train together? I know that picture you are talking about that was Flamingos gym, its gone now it was replaced with bar beers late 90's...that was the good old Samui. I hear now its got traffic like Bangkok.

6:21 it’s amazing that this man describes Ramon’s philosophy of fighting and it sounds just like how Manny Pacquio describes his own thoughts on fighting “just doing my job, nothing personal.” It struck me because the man had a hard time searching for the word “personal,” instead finally settling for the word “Private,” which describes them both very well.
