When it comes to fighting games, Sega's 'Fighting Vipers' series is as 90's as you can get. Taking heavy inspiration from Virtua Fighter, Fighting Vipers is a pseudo-3D fighting game with an emphasis on big damage and battle damage, and it has lots of colourful characters with extensive move lists.
I've never really played these games properly before, so I wanted to play them both and document the development, gameplay, reception, and legacy of both games in one video to provide my thoughts on the series.
MUSIC:
Heroic Battle - Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2
Cool Shrine - Shinobi (PS2)
Member Select - SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy
Electro Triple Star - Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes
In Your Dream - Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 3
Everyday in Bomb Town - Bombergirl
Urban Crusher - Border Break
Moonlit Lady - Dead or Alive 4
One Dance - Drake

Ah yes, the game that features legally distinct Jotaro Kujo: Bahn. He even has the Diamond is Unbreakable alternate color-set.

The fact that it has arcade classics hidden as minigames as a selling point says a lot about Yakuza. Next video covering Last Bronx when?

I've never played Fighting Vipers, and only learned of the series thanks to Honey The Cat, but gosh does it look cool. I'd happily try out a new one (or ports of the previous two games); more 3D fighters are needed these days. 0:32 - Despite addressing the issues that faced Virtual Fighter with an increased personality and style (Virtual Fighter is rather plain), I assume it's Saturn basis is why Fighting Vipers didn't quite catch on. 1:08 - My first console of my own was the Dreamcast, so if I ever get the old system up and running, owning Fighting Vipers 2 would be one of my aims. Not often the PAL scene gets a game that skipped the US. 2:10 - The real time battle damage/armour break is so cool. I think the next fighting game to do this was Soulcalibur IV, a whopping 2 generations later. Neat to get comments from all these old gaming magazines. 4:03 - The side-by-side comparison is appreciated. The differences are easy to see with floor textures and a fuzziness to the Saturn version outlines, but none of them are too drastic. The replication of the characters is great and the Saturn version still looks beautiful with the shine of Candy's boots and dress still apparent. 5:37 - Yeah, they weren't very subtle about Bahn's inspiration. 8:48 - Wh-what? Yeah, this was quite the jump. Also, I'm curious about how well the first Fighting Vipers did in PAL territories. Perhaps it had better sales in UK and Europe, leading to the Dreamcast sequel arriving in those territories but skipping out on the US. 10:37 - Oh yes, from their offices; I thought they were staying on Alcatraz Island for 10 months developing the game there for a second. Also, they made the game in only 10 months!? Crazy! 12:02 - Now you're really making me want the game. Any comparison to DOA is a good thing for me.

Since it appears that Sega is bringing back Virtua Fighter and Eternal Champions, maybe they'll decide to bring back a third fighting game if those two succeed. That said, the market for 3D fighting games may not be large enough to support Tekken, Virtua Fighter, and Fighting Vipers at the same time.

I've only briefly played these games on an emulator, and it's very fun thanks to the massive impact attacks have on other characters. Thank you, Project X Zone, for making me interested in the series!

Could you talk about obscure doujinshi games? Talking about Hinokakera, Destruction Desire, Eternal Fighter Zero would be incredible.
