Just learned about this today, after 2 months after he passed away. Think I was on summer vacation when this happened. RIP Joe. I met this man before, back in 2008, before I did tours of Iraq and Afghanistan, which I am not saying which one or maybe both. I did buy this book from Joe We Were Soldiers and Joe he signed it for me, and got my picture taken with him. And sometime after I read the whole book. But wished I got to read the book before I seen this great movie. Its not everyday when a person meets a person like Joe.

Rest in Peace. A real journalist who put down his "pen and paper" and fought for his life and the life of the troops who's story he was covering. See the cover he wears? The CAB and Bronze Star? He's a civilian. Think about it. The so-called "journalists" today don't even have the right to even think about shining this man's Corcorans. Not one amongst them have a smidgen of what this guy was made of.

May he rest in peace with family and friends knowing all he did to bring Honor upon himself, those units, and the families of those we lost. He might not of been a soldier but he had the heart and soul of one. Rest now warrior and sleep in peace knowing your watch has ended. R.I.P Brother you will be honored and missed.

@Barr Stool He was a journalist that carried weapons and used them when necessary. Charlie Beckwith put him on a.30 Caliber Air cooled machine gun for almost 3 days during the siege at Plei Me. Galloway stood next to Plumley gunning down the enemy when they broke through the C-Company lines at LZ X-Ray and HE earned Plumley's eternal respect for it. The guy marched with, slept with, and fought with the units he covered. He was given a Bronze Star for valor and he was awarded the Doughboy. He's A Warrior my friend.

I read a lot of history. Joe Galloway and Hal Moore's two books on the Ia Drang are the most important books I've ever read because of their understanding of the politics of war and how it happens. The second book, "We Are Soldiers Still" in audiobook is read by Galloway himself, with his slow southern drawl. It is solid gold. The first book "We Were Soldiers Once, and Young" is about the battle. Unless you are a combat vet, you want to read the first book first.
