Your do realize that it has been a hard and frustrating fall harvest in MN and farmers are getting really tired - physically and mentally. He put the vid out to show that I think He is a positive guy as well as the rest of the crew - just getting frustrated with unclogging every darn pass and cleaning out wheels all the time, etc. etc. - It has been a tough season. I know - I help farmers to access to hunt and I have been out there (not these guy's , closer to the twin cities) every chance I can as it has been a tough harvest here in MN. @@rogerswigert8798

Love listening to you Doug. I'm 72 we farmed around Butterfield and Wadena when I was young. Remember how tired my dad got. Whether watching the tractor lights while he cultivated all night or did what your doing. Loved his work ethic and yours. Thanks for letting us in on your struggles.

Dougo always enjoyed your insight. You make the job look easy but through your videos you have shown us how stressfully it can be The concept is easy. Turn over the soil, fertilize, plant the seed, irrigate, plant grows ,harvest the grain, repeat. Multiply by thousands of acers ,tons of grain, insanely complex machinery and just a hand full of men and you have shown what an immense task it is to run a farm. Hats off to the job you do supply the world with food.

Dougo, and every year you are thinking what am I doing this for? Because you love it. You can take the man off the farm but you can't take the farmer out of the man. Hardships and farming go hand and hand. You have to be a relivent and successful in your farming business to make it thru the struggles. You guys show that it isn't easy work, it isn't always fun, it isn't cheap to farm, breakdowns and repairs are expensive. But, you are still farming. Farmers got one of the hardest jobs, there is no day off unless you have someone to fill in, there is no sick days unless you have someone to fill in. Your days start in the early hours and go into nights. I am GRATEFUL to all farmers and I am GRATEFUL to Larson Farms for all you guys do and I THANK YOU👋 Dougo as frustrated as you are you love farming and we Love listening to your stories, you talking to yourself, your frustrations, most of all your wisdom. I ENJOY your videos I also like Amy and Dougo video's❤ Hope your chopping corn gets drier for you and it will be a success. I know your on a time crunch, life of a farmer. That chopper does a great job on those stalks. Yea we spread manure from our feedlot every year. We only have enough manure to cover half our land but it makes a difference especially on a year when the crop is stressed.

Spent MANY hours pulling a 4 row chopper and disk with a Massey Super 90 inside a canvas heat-houser. Scads of corn cobs and the occasional rock to the head. Fun times I tell ya.

She watched this video and it reminded her of grandpa selling a corn picker. I looked at some videos of those, oh boy, now a day in the fields with one of those would have a guy talking to himself. I used to work in forestry, doing controlled burns, wildfire suppression, and making fire lines with a dozer. On one particular job site the logging crew cut the trees even with the ground. When you’re pushing making new fire lanes around the property boundary in second gear on a dozer. Your trying to move just enough dirt and combustible material to make a clean dirt path the width of your dozer blade, 9-10 feet, and it be smooth enough to drive a four wheeler or tractor on and not get beat to death. When you hit an 18 to 20” stump at ground level at full speed it is extremely violent! If you don’t have your seatbelt on you could go flying over the hood. It is so violent that it throws the hearing protection ear muffs off your head when you come to the sudden stop. Even in first gear it’s really bad. I’ve had to stop and take breaks just to regain some composure and not walk off the job. What usually called quitting time wasn’t the clock or the weather but you just couldn’t take hitting another stump that day! You can bet you have a good talk with the company that hired us to do the job and make certain that logging crew never did that again!

Thanks for another great video Dougo. It was interesting. Wow. A ton of memories you brought back to me cutting stocks. Now don’t you laugh but two rows at a time. Yes, two rows at a time using an 88 Oliver tractor. Oh boy. Then we got the 880 and 1850 and went to four rows at a time. We thought we were kings. Oh my. This is back in the days of plowing after cutting the stocks. Wow. How did we survive??? So Dougo I really enjoyed you talking about cutting stocks. It was most enjoyable. Good job with the cutter. Pulling the disk behind the cutter was a good idea. Wish we would have thought about that. Because it was picking the corn and then cutting stocks and then disking and finally plowing. Wow. Back in the 60’s we had a 4 row chopper, then disc it twice trying to grind up the stalks. Cover it with manure from the dairy farm and all with tractors with no cabs…. Good ole days 😂😂. Thx for the video !!

I remember helping my father in law with that! I also ran a single drum sugar beet topper! That was fun at night as you had to go over the beets twice, went over em one way then had to go over them the opposite way

Dougo, you are the best 👍. I remember those days way back when I was a kid just starting to be turned loose on my own out in a tractor back in 78' - 79' at 9-10 yrs old. Out running our batwing mowing down stubble. At that time, it was quite enjoyable but I see that is not the case now days, plus we don't have the big rock problem as I see you do up there. You have came around very nicely being on camera compared to how shy you were in the beginning, your wisdom and humor make for very good content.

my dad always rented a 4 row stalk chopper in the 70s pulled it with a 560 farmall then he bought a 2 row that mounted to the pickup on his new holland square baler we baled a lot of bedding good memories

Feel your frustration Doug’s. I grew chopping stalks on a 3010 John Deere four row chopper pulling a disk. No cab. Corn cobs would fly up and hit the back of your head. Pulled chopper disc over frozen muddy ground in late November. Yeah I’m old been there done that.

I watch a lot of farmers from all over the country. Minnesota’s “gumbo” soil as Chet calls it, is by far the thickest, stickiest soil I’ve seen. It looks like a combo of clay & concrete.

Around my area only the big farmers might have chopping corn heads. Most farmers just disce or chisel the stocks or no till. If they do mow stocks, they mainly use batwing shedders.

Those were a big common thing in our area before chopping heads came into play, a lot of farmers used bush hog mowers and the farmers who kept the chaff used disc bine mowers
