Compared to the army you see more black men in army special forces compared to navy seals. I have seen more black green berets than seals and I think when you a person that looks you in that role you get more inspiration to be that.

He and I have spoke a bit through social media and he's legit in every way. I have his book, which he signed by the way. I retired from the Navy after 22 years and worked a lot with NSW. Whenever I came across a Black SEAL, EOD, SWCC or Diver, I gave them all mad props because I know that they had one extra obstacle to get over. When I became a full-time recruiter, I was part of team that worked on trying to diversify a lot of fields that were underrepresented by POC and women and he's absolutely right when it comes to access of information.

I don't know why people don't understand that in the inner city is not something that you see at all , I met my first real Navy SEAL , Army Ranger etc at the military school I graduated from , had never heard of either until I got there , I thought they were talking about park or forest rangers like i legit told one of my cadre " you mean like yogi the bear a park ranger " had no idea , they don't really allow combat arms recruiters especially USASOC , AFSOC ,NSW etc in predominantly Black schools in the inner city honestly .. we're not raised with the For God and Country mantra .. and that's where the disconnect starts

Honestly it must also have something to do with how many try, I mean, a handful of guys who are black out of 100-200+ total people who arrive Day 1 of BUD/s must be what you expect. Maybe people could try to reach out to some people from walks of life who would never consider the military otherwise but could have great passion in the calling.

@@unitedstatesofamerica9948 Why is it when when you heard this man talking about a lack of exposure in his community as well as a lack of relevant resources such as swimming pools etc... You thought you should comment that there should be no hand outs? This is one of the problems with race relations in America, you are listening and not hearing what the man said. He never mentioned anything about assuring graduation for POC. Your comment is fraught with racist ideas and you don't even see it. You think we need you to tell us it's about being driven, because obviously we are not as a people. You didn't stop and look in the comments of hundreds of people saying they never heard about different tier 1 units til later in life. You just assumed less if us are there because of drive. Even though the Navy has done the study and said that the failure rates the same regardless of race. This, the issue IS exposure. Higgins has mentioned the same, yet here you are with your racist assumptions. SMH.

My wife led a summer program promoting careers in medicine which is also under represented for minorities. Her and her team would go to high schools and speak to students that were interested in the medical field. Her biggest push back came from public schools with a large minority student base. The facility would do things like switch times at the last minute resulting in no kids showing up to her meeting, they would give her attitude if she pressed the issue on scheduling. One school admin even told her that quote, "no one in this school is going to be a doctor". It's an agenda! Apologies Mr Adeleke, didn't want to detract from your great story. Keep making history!!

I don't think you took away from his message. What I gather from this is actually part of his message. He is talking about the message is being cut off from our people. What your wife and her team has experienced is being cut off at the local source. As a whole we are cut off at state and federal, however his experiences are when the local structure are willing to assist us with overcoming the issue. What your wife and her team have done is identify local people who are part of the problem that need to be taken out of the school system.

It’s not always an agenda (I have no doubt that it is an agenda in places) a lot of times it’s because of incompetence and administrators/teachers literally hating their students. I experienced that hatred at the IPS system in Indianapolis. Kids would break every rule in the book and when the school tried to hold them accountable or even just teach them a lesson the parents 9 times out of 10 would come in threatening either physical harm or a lawsuit. As a result the administration grew to despise the kids and it’d last until that administration would leave. It was a vicious cycle because the same thing would inevitably happen to the next admin. The city tried pouring massive amounts of money in and even reshuffled each school’s territory and nothing worked. Finally about 10yrs ago they completely redesigned the system and made one “traditional” high school and the rest were turned into satellite schools where students could choose to go to learn a trade. So far it has worked pretty well but a lot of inner city kids are being robbed of a good education and are being churned out to do blue collar jobs with little to no chance of success. I should point out before this change the school’s were graduating about 20% of each class and now they’re graduating 3 times that.

As far as the ymca its only one in the whole borough, while the borough with the least amount of people in Staten Island predominantly white has about five YMCAS. The other boroughs in NYC all have about four YMCAs each to teach swimming.

My friend had me look at this video as his son is about to go into the Navy to hopefully become a SEAL.I have talk with his son on many occasions about Spec Ops and and SMU Tier 1 units. To be clear I was never a Tier 1 operator, but rather a tier 2 which is what SEALS are as well. I have to agree with all that he has said in this video in regards to POC. I had to do recruiting shortly after I go through with OCS. I was in DC which has a large urban communities. It was very hard to see how much urban city youth we at a disadvantaged both academically and resource wise. More specifically that of Black and Latino. I even faced that same type of ignorance with my own family. They had no idea what a Army Ranger was and to them the Ranger battalion and the National Guard was one in the same. It was not that their understand or knowledge was a prerequisite to my choice. Rather, I saw the difference between my family and that of white families when they would come to visit. I met a few Ranger mothers that could recite the Ranger Creed..lol So we have to do a better job making sure that we educate those in urban communities about the different paths in the military and more importantly the small community of SOF.

@@johnnieboy66 this is the most elite training a person can get. it could be some underlying behind the scenes intentional reason to keep certain ethnic groups out. Navy seals, green berets, army rangers, delta, devgru and so forth will not stay military forever. No real reason today versus a very racist america in the 50s and 60s. eventho the military was desegrated in the 40s, there were always racist leadership that limited minorities from certain jobs. Infantry. diver, special forces operators. artillery. and most combat jobs were consider prestiges in those days. there were not as many jobs and technical skills like there are today. Minoroties were only cooks, mechanics, supply, and so forth then. this grew less and less over the 50s 60s and 70s but very minorities still till this days in those elite units. most minorities do not even apply to elite unis and the ones that do have a 80 percent failure rate. Not to make this a complete racial diversity issue but think of it like a major corporation with CEOS and high ranking positions, if a company has 2000 employees, you might have 10 to 20 minorities in very few key select positions but most will be an low token employee or the janitor.

Limit minorities? bullshit and you don’t know what you’re talking about. They spend millions on trying to recruit minorities, we have minority recruiters that go around specifically to recruit minorities. There’s a lot of reasons why blacks are underrepresented. One reason according to the NSW recruiters is that the sickle cell trait is much higher in African Americans than in other races. Why is this a big deal, because you automatically fail your physical because you cant dive ( go under pressure) or go to altitude to conduct free fall operations. That’s a big one. Another one, most brothers can’t swim! Look at Remi he couldn’t swim but manned up and made it. It was a pleasure being in the same platoon with him.

It’s bc of the world we live in now, the American Dream doesn’t as much matter. Put in to perspective, teachers say your life is only to grow up get out of school and go to college and get a job and make money, that is the American dream they say. They tell you, you can’t accomplish that bc how you going make money, how you going start. Your dreams are your power. If you walk into an inner city school and ask which students are going to be a doctor, a navy seal, and successfull millionaire in their 40’s you will get an answer of none. the truth is the teachers don’t really care and if kids were always following their dreams the big corporations wouldn’t have as much if kids were following their goals in life and starting small businesses and going the extra mile and making a difference, keep the communities from that information, and make promises to give them better jobs and better life and healthcare but yet keep them poor and break their promises. America in its mind is broke, and information is key to making people’s lives better. Remi is a good man, his story is one of the great ones where he’s worked hard and now all the hard work is giving him a better life. It’s not weeks or months or even a year, it takes 10, 20, maybe 30 years for everything to fall into place but it will. That’s where are school systems stink they don’t teach us the life lessons. Remi keep doing what your doing abd get your message out there.

“We need more brothers on the teams, but you guys can’t swim “ was the slogan yet Chief Rich Evans and Chief Gelinas begged me to run the chit because they said I was ready. Hell, I could swim but just had issues with the side stroke and I could shoot and run. I was slated to go after SERE but my mom said I’d be killed and she would die soon after. Being I was her only son I said I could be killed now but she said no she saw it in a vision. I spent six years in one of Atlantas worst projects after my mom lost her corporate job. It transformed me and desensitized me to death so mentally I was hard. Those early years after 911 was hard on the guys with helo crashes and compromised missions so I have survivors guilt because I knew many of those guys who were killed. These days I have no regrets that I didn’t go thru BUDs just based off of how I’ve seen black men and women get treated in the Navy. From biased evals to going to Captains Mast over the littlest shit. I figure why give this country 110% of my effort and my life just to get profiled by the police ? This guy has to basically walk around with a trident 🔱 on his chest everywhere just to get his proper respect and it shouldn’t have to be like that .its like being a black police officer. Except for proving how badass u are to yourself how does it benefit a black man when it takes an element of patriotism just to deal with NSW community. Truth be told Hollywood makes SEALs these warriors , but how do you take a snotty nose kid from Dakota and in less than a year turn him into a killer? U can’t. It all seems fake in hindsight and young black men see that. Ask a gang member from Chicago if he wants to be a SEAL? Black folks have their own war.

Major water qualifications and combat diving + negative buoyant = it is what it is, you will sink like a rock! It can be done (obviously) but its one hell of an obstacle that is genetic. "I blame the education system" is a bit simplified and forgetting the most important factor, the home! You know the place where parents parent, guide, inform, and educate their kids yet instead we have fatherless homes and mothers/grandparents looking to the state to educate their kids. How's that working out? Don't worry, I'll wait...... It's a topic that can never be covered in a 9m KZbin video so it is what it is.

We didn't decide to be in a all white town, the Roosevelt Administration made that call. We've got to stop seeing everything through the prism of race. And god bless you for overcoming everything you did. No need to make excuses for anyone else.

but he isn't wrong that there aren't as many recruiters, for example, going to the poorer area. I don't think he was talking about racism on that font. It just so happens to be that black people are in the majority in urban areas which is a fact. Maybe then we can argue why is that but that goes into speculation which is why I like how he explained. for once it wasn't a racial attack.

BS, Seals don't advertise. Other then movies or being in the Navy, that community doesn't advertise. The swimming is the biggest reason. Also in African American communities the military isn't cool and being raised without a father and legacy, military legacy is why men want to be a sailor. I'm a US Navy Corpsman, I experienced the military and none of the black guys I knew in the Navy thought danger was dumb, didn't want the high danger job. It was education they were getting by joining.

Corey Bruce That title, “SEAL diversity.” In a combat-oriented unit, diversity shouldn’t be the focus, what should be the focus is anyone who can handle the workload in that environment no matter their gender or race
