Beautiful rifle and great description video. You can clearly see that this is a predecessor to the Lee-Enfield in the profile of the magazine and trigger guard.

Is this a black powder firearm or is it suitable for smokeless ammunition?

You could probably use lightly-loaded smokeless 45-70 ammo in it although I am not certain. I have a Trapdoor Springfield in which I shoot both BP and light smokeless 45-70 and I've had no problems. I have also see situations, though, where even light smokeless loads in other calibers (577-450 Martini Henry for example) will cause problems such as difficulty extracting or difficulty reforming the brass to reload it.

@@sbreheny Very true, but when it comes to BPCR, I'd rather play it safe and use the holy Black instead of smokeless.
