In this video we take apart another classic firearm. Everything you need to know to complete this job yourself. I am posting a follow up video for the trigger assembly, watch for the upcoming link. Interrupter latch not actually taken off in this video, but I show you how if you want to remove it.

I love the way you used the mistake and putting the gun back together as a learning opportunity. In addition, the camera work and narration were fantastic. Thank you so much for your work!

Excelente video..!!

Great video and 1100s are awesome guns.. I do believe that the shell latches are staked in from the factory. I’m surprised yours stayed in with you sliding it back in the way you did. If it ever doesn’t stay in place, or falls out, a staking tool may help you out with getting it reinstalled. The two marks on the inner part of the receiver you referred to are where it was staked the last time. Keep up the Remington videos!

Great video and explanations step by step. I have both a 12 and 20 1100 and replaced the gas O rings. Guns do not cycle consistently after my work! For years they have been just fine. Pretty sure the piston pieces are kissing properly. The metal under them seems very caked up with years of use. What would you use to clean the metal spring housing where the piston parts sit?

I use Hoopes #9 and a tooth brush or Q-tips. Nothing that will scratch, I think any good quality gun cleaner will work, I just really like Hoppes (smells good too :)) Let me know how it goes.

The video is great! Thank you! I just bought a Remington 1100 .410 Sporting. It was jamming/double feeding. Then I made the mistake of pushing the button on the bottom to close the action then I couldn’t get the action open. I started following your video to take the gun apart, and worked perfectly until I got to the “feed latch” (3:49). It won’t budge. I’ve been soaking with Ballistoil for 6 hours. Any ideas on the latch or my other issues I’m trying to solve?

I would like your recommendation....BTW your video is very good...The problem I'm having is that the action is binding and used your video for a good cleaning...the shotgun is a 1100 20 gauge magnum. Purchased used a few years ago, now action is sticking, even pulling action to rear it sticks and can hold itself open without it being locked to the rear....after cleaning and careful inspection, it appears the hammer is making contact where the hammer goes through the center of the action link...I can see marks on the sides of the hammer. When trigger group is removed the action is smooth as glass confirming the trigger group causes the problem...I am thinking about shaving off a few thousands off the sides of the hammer or inside of action link or slightly bending open the action link. What say you? Thanks Dennis. PS. I see nothing broken, but I did not release the hammer pressure as it was cocked to see if it has play in it...I should have done that. I'll try that next to see if something is loose or worn relating to the hammer. That may be it or why would it start doing this. It's still under investigation.

Hi Dennis, thanks for the msg. That is a new problem for me. I would caution filing etc. anything inside the trigger mechanism. I personally would try to replace those two pieces that interact with each other. Definitely sounds like wear so even if you get it working again by filing I would wonder if it will only be a temporary fix. Just my 2 cents. Let me know what you figure out

Is that a crimp in the magazine and is that to limit the number of shells it can hold or for the seal to sit in
@mattsgaragediy
@mattsgaragediy 4 ай бұрын
Hey Barney, that is part of the seal system, no crimp in the magazine tube. You would have to add a spacer into the tube to limit shells based on your local hunting regs.

Excellent video!!! You are a born teacher. My uncle gave me his 1100 trap years ago. I pulled it out and the serial number is extremely low hmmm. So where does a guy get parts for these just in case. Thanks again

Awesome, sounds like you have a piece worth keeping as a family heirloom. My go to for all parts is Numrich Gun parts. They have tons or parts and pieces for older models. The seals I just ordered off of Amazon.

Fantastic video, thanks for taking the time to make this. I have a loose charging handle, it looks like it is related to the spring at the 20:42 minute mark on the video. Any tips for disassembly on this? My handle actually fell out bird hunting, but I was able to recover it with a magnet. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

Let me pull mine apart and take a closer look at that, sounds like maybe a worn out spring. Has your shotgun been apart a bunch of times, wonder if charging handle wasn't fully seated during last install?

@@final_judgment two things, first look at the handle, if the part that interacts with the spring loaded ball looks worn or rounded I would consider replacing it. I am referring specifically to the notch that is cut out...it should have crisp edges. Second, there is a pin and rod system that puts pressure on the ball. You should see the rod protruding out the back. Just below the rod is a small pin that should be able to be driven out sideways to release the assembly and allow for spring replacement. I believe that you need to press the rod into the housing(towards the ball ) and then drive the pin out sideways. Mine wont come out so I am going to soak it with penetrating oil for the weekend and then try again.

@@mattsgaragediy Thanks again. I purchased two handles from Ebay new old stock, both have play leading me to think it is the spring. I found a "new" charging handle detent spring on Ebay so I will attempt this repair when it comes in. Crazy that Brownell's and Midway no longer seem to stock parts for these. Anyway thanks again for the explanation above, I really appreciate you.

@@final_judgment you bet, good luck with the repairs, I am still gonna pull mine apart once I get the pin freed up. My go to for parts is Numrich www.gunpartscorp.com they seem to have most hard to find parts.

From what I can see they are very similar but I do not have an 1187 available to make 100% sure. For basically cleaning you should be able to follow the same disassembly steps

Is it common for the inside of receiver to be sharp
@mattsgaragediy
@mattsgaragediy 5 ай бұрын
I'm not sure I would call it sharp but there are some pretty crisp edges. You do want to be careful reaching inside, but if it is actually sharp there may have been some wear or lack of lubrication at some point. How old it the gun and are you the original owner or has there been a bit of unknown history?

First, thanks for watching! Keep soaking, I would potentially do that several times a day for 7 days. even use different brands of penetrating oil if available or acetone ands trans fluid mixed 50/50. with a flashlight and dental pick or seal pick try scarping behind the raised end of the feed latch incase something has accumulated behind it the is preventing it from depressing. Any signs of rust or corrosion?

Hey Manny, I do not have a 153 to make an exact comparison but they do appear similar and many of the steps of disassemble should be the same. That being said do not interchange parts or force anything that does not want to come apart easily.
