true oil also works really nice without using stain, just oil on wood.

Thanks for showing the process of refinishing a stock using the Tru-Oil. I have a commercial SKS, nothing historical, that I want to refinish to a darker color. It has no gloss to it so I think I can go straight to sanding, but I wanted to see the process and I will leave it shiny.

It's a very nice job for those who like a gloss finish. I would turn it into a satin finish with 5/0 steel wool.But that's me!

How did it hold up this season? And is it any more or less slippery than a factory finish?

It did good. Held up well and seems durable. I only took it out once for a doe hunt but it's comparable to factory. Not slippery and can be handled safety. Nothing about it bothers me.
