I had this exact gun, 300 Savage and all, before I moved overseas. Mine seemed a tad easier to load however.

Did not realize the 81 was a Browning design nor a long recoil action. What a genius. He designed all of the great rifles, pistols and shotguns.

I make my 300 savage rounds from .308 military brass. I use M14 stripper clips.. those two things make this a very economical rifle to shoot.

Something to note from this video - namely that loading from a stripper clip is slow and cumbersome. I find it is just as fast, maybe faster, to load each cartridge individually. There is a trick. Insert the cartridge into the magazine base down, then flip it forward. It works very well after a little practice.

That is some rough clip feeding. Are most stripper fed rifles like this in your opinion or is there something on this particular rifle that is catching?
@PhoenixPhart5 жыл бұрын
I'm using Swedish Mauser clips with the tabs ground off. It's not perfect, but it usually works well enough. It's usually not that stubborn, but that's what happens when you're using clips with ammunition it wasn't designed for. Most stripper fed rifles tend not to have this much of a problem in my experience
@thegoldencaulk27425 жыл бұрын
The original clips do tend to be smoother, especially the brass ones which are pretty robust and reliable. Most stripper-fed rifles tend to be smooth if using the correct clip and assuming the gun is in good condition. Even a good Mosin can be loaded smoothly if you avoid the junk repro clips.

@@SpruceReduce8854 lol sorry, I found it on the ground over to the right after reviewing the footage. That recording with the front sight was the second filming while the final version you see here is the third. Sorry to hear about your 1903 extractors, my 1908 sheared the back of the firing pin so now I have a non-firing slide. Ended up picking up a new slide tho

i have a model 81 in 35 i have model 8s in 25, 30, 32, 35 caliber. i have killed several deer with them. i am a handloader of course. and BTW to load without a stripper clip, tilt the cartridge up and put the rim into the magazine first then push in place, do the same to the next round. it makes it a whole lot faster and easer.

A 223/556 version of this gun would have a market, with many states banning more then 10 rounds they could make a double stack internal magazine and a double stack stripper clip with 10 rounds. They could double stack like the M1 Garand, which had a 10 round prototype or like the SKS.
