Zouave a class of light infantry regiments of the French Army serving between 1830 and 1962 and linked to French North Africa; as well as some units of other countries modelled upon them. The zouaves were among the most decorated units of the French Army. In the war between the states both north and south had Zouave regiments, one was comprised of NYC Firefighters. the odd Algerian uniforms lack of training and poor discipline had no effect on their success, they were special because they believed themselves to be special, a reminder of what that Greek fella said Two thousand two hundred years ago, the Greek mercenary Xenophon made an insightful observation about warfare: “Whichever army goes into battle stronger in soul, their enemies generally cannot withstand them”
