Remmy Ongala - Bongo Beat documentary

This is an incredible look into the life and music of Ramadhani Mtoro Ongala Mungamba, aka "Dr Remmy." This documentary directed by Swede Jan Röed and shot in 1995/1996 in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. This was recorded from the BBC and copied from PAL to NTSC, hence the less than perfect quality. If the makers of this film object to this being on YT, please email me and I will remove. I've uploaded this film as a tribute to a great great man and I wish I had a chance to meet him and watch him perform. This film gives you the feeling that you already have.
This film shows interviews, live performances of his band, and a look at daily life in Tanzania.
This film does have some profanity and suggestive dancing, so please be mindful of that.
Just a personal comment here, Remmy in the film questions his pal Cosmas on Jesus and Heaven, and in his music how the colonial powers exported their unwelcome religions. Later in his life after health problems, he gave his life to Jesus and became a preacher. I find it very ironic and hopeful that humans can overcome their initial doubts be it religion, politics or life. This is one of my favorite films ever made and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

This guy did a great to migrate to Tanzania because his way of singing does reflect a musician who would gotten promoted or succeeded in congo . He didn't have a minimum talent to play in big bands in Kinshasa like Afrisa , OK JAZZ, VIVA LA MUSICA, BELLA BELLA ,ZAÏKO etc . But for non-Congolese they thought he was a great 😆😆😆😆.. Anyways thanks to Tanzania 🇹🇿 he did a great job for his musical career

I didn't understand the lyrics but he would explain the songs and the records had translations. I didn't find it surprising he married a white woman, (Toni is of Irish-Israeli background) he was an internationalist.
