In better words for JFJ's statement "You couldn't make a tank build if you tried." A tank build is possible! But is it viable for the endgame? Nope! Melee just doesn't perform well enough to justify building into it and tanking hits is easy, until you get to nightmare mode where things will blitz you in 2-3 hits (which on melee is far worse because you can't dodge as easily if you're in the enemies face) Also there are bosses that fly and enemies that fly, which is another sad fact for melee builds. Tanking in this game doesn't mean a whole lot, as even in JFJ's streams he makes a tanky build, but still a handful of hits can knock him within a few seconds. Tanking means nothing if it only takes one more hit to kill you in most scenarios. Plus fully building into the tank and medic will hinder your damage for range overall, especially if you've built for melee for main damage.

@@kowaretatelesto4253 Well even my build isnt fully finished, but while ill acknowledge that flying enemies are a pain for melee, the other points arent as imperitive as you might think. In fact in a game like this, taking an extra hit or two can literally be the difference between beating a boss or having to try over again. Ive had my more damage orientated friends die much quicker while also not doing as much damage. My build consists of doing 600-1000 damage per swing(which isnt nothing) on charges, my damage reduction as stated before is insane, while also healing 3 grey health per second. The medic archtype makes it so I can simply stand there and fight(as long as im not swarmed by stunlockers), while also ensuring im almost constantly healing grey health as one of their skills increases the amount of hits to 3 before grey health disappears. While I have not tried it on nightmare yet as im not at the end, I think stating that a tank build isnt possible isnt right. It is possible and actually really fun imo.

@@anonpowers3841 That's probably my fault with poor wording... A tank build is possible, after all you're doing through your first playthrough and haven't gotten everything yet and you aren't in nightmare mode either. It's just that the viability between normal and nightmare is quite a jump. A hit or two can make a difference in fights (especially boss fights) it's just that in the endgame a tank/melee build isn't what it should be. This of course can change with the future dlcs and also patches buffing and nerfing certain things, but as of this moment tank/melee builds suffer in endgame content. Someone can and will beat the game melee only (let's be real people are crazy like that) but for right now it can feel like a terrible experience. There is a dodge and if properly done the damage is null, which is another reason why tank builds aren't exactly looked at favorably. Any good player can dodge properly and keep laying into enemies or bosses, so a tank build starts to look less appealing as the skill level rises. Back to melee as a whole... It's great! It feels nice and it's satisfying to chop or beat down enemies, but the lack of range for enemies flying is just annoying. You can't even beat the endgame boss with melee (for what we know so far) guns are the main tool for damage in remnant, which is a bit disappointing given how satisfying it can be to swing through a horde of enemies. Again this can change in the future with updates and dlc. I'd love for melee to be endgame dominant and I'd love for tank to be great as well, but right now it's easier to sit back and shoot and dodge when needed. Plus there are countless rings and relics to heal you by constantly shooting an enemy, so ranged healer is pretty easy

The overarching story is a mediocre contrivance, but the individual world stories and all their little discoverable lore bits are fantastic. Makes it confusing as to why there's such a divide in narrative quality there. Also, engineer is turbo-based.

I do like that our character has a simple goal and succeeds in it, for better or worse, while other characters deal with all the crazy stuff. As is the story in the whole of the Chronos/Remnant trilogy

The lore is pretty good! The direct in-game story is generally just "The root is consuming everything, kill it" which is good enough for a souls-like, but once you dig into the lore of Chronos, Remnant, and Remnant II, it gets pretty fun.

You actually can make a tank build, there’s a engineer/challenger setup where you only need to dodge auto one shots but can pretty much just stand and shoot everything else. Had to do with high armor, stacking bulwark and bonuses from rings that further damage reduction.

Really hope they release a Labyrinth/True Rougelike mode for a DLC like they did Remnant 1. So much of the good shooting is just behind a slog of obscure puzzle solving that you basically require a wiki lookup to solve. Yaesha has certain things that can only be unlocked when approaching objects during a blood moon. If you don't look it up, it's just dumb luck to find out about it.

Which in and of itself, while cool and gave the community a driving force to keep the interest in the game up, is a problem because I'm 100% sure there are casual players that don't even know Archon exists, or that beating the game on a higher difficulty than Survivor unlocks new items.

I love a majority of puzzles in this game there's two that I consider to be downright stupid and that's Yaesha's cathedral of omens puzzle. I spent hours brute forcing that till I found the solution for the symbols in a book after the ravager fight. Why tf would you put the solution at the end of the entire stage. Only other one I think is BS is the Archon class unlock with the devs expecting people to datamine the game in order to find the solution to unlock the labyrinth door. If you're gonna use external puzzles outside the game just use the game website or pull a MGS and put a cypher/code on the box. No way in hell people were gonna figure out archon without dataminers which is stupid.

Yeah I'll never understand that sentiment. It'd be like if roads were built by cycling crews who were fired every 2 weeks and every time a new crew came in they were just wordlessly handed the blueprints from the previous crew with no explanation on anything and just expected to use previous experience to figure it out. Then after months of this the road is a patchwork piece of shit that falls apart. Then the workers come out and say "hey the way you're running things is ruining our paychecks and resulting in shitty roads. We're gonna strike so we get working conditions that let us make working roads and pay for our houses." Then everyone driving goes "why would we give more money to people who made shitty roads??" While i do agree that the *main* story is dogass, i found the little bits of story form each world to be quite enjoyable. I had a blast with this game playing with a friend and im glad that you seem to enjoy the gameplay as well. Also, (as im sure you have seen in other comments), you have quite a lot of freedom when it comes to builds. The only problem is that you need to get lucky with some of the spawns. This game does do it better than from the ashes though, 100%.

Remnant 2 is VERY fun. Enjoying it way more than the original. And sure the overarching story is mid at best but the specific stories of each world? Surprisingly deep 2:03 Incorrect, you very much CAN make a tank build or a DPS build or whatever other kinds of builds you want. You just do it in a different way than usual. Since in this game you don't have the RPG stat points, your builds will hinge on your archetype skills, rings, amulets and traits. So yes you very much can make a tank build. 6:35 Again, you are wrong, there IS EXP in the game. Each archetype have their own XP counter and can levem up, netting you new traits and abilities 14:54 The hell do you mean "You don't get to make a choice" yes you do! You can kill the doe, heal the doe, attack the ravager and during the ravager fight you can save the doe or let the ravager eat it, there's plenty of choice there

I'm reasonably sure you also get a different outcome if you shoot the Ravager but then (either accidentally or on purpose) kill the Doe before the Ravager tries to eat it.

@@cainprescott4937 It's not a different outcome, it's a different drop. If you let the ravager eat the doe you get the Crimson Membrane. However if you kill the doe you get the Ravager's Maw. They are used to forge different weapons but the overall outcome is the same: Both gods die.

I have managed to make a tank build using health regeneration and a ring that gives shield every time you hit 25% it takes a super powerful hit or many hits quickly to kill you and with the heaviest armor you can stop that it works best solo, try it it with the ring that makes you take less damage the lower your health is. Nope, even your starting area is random. You can start either in N'erud, Losomn or Yaesha. And within those worlds your starting point is also random and it determines what "story" you go through.

Went to J's Gamer Supps flavor page to look at the reviews and I was genuinely shocked with how many reviews were 10/10 one of the best flavors ever to grace this earth and more importantly my taste buds, that or how it looks like piss and tastes amazing, those were 5 stars too. I thought I was only looking at the 5 star ratings to I look at the rating percentage and my eyes widened. Out of 345 reviews, not one single one star, only a single person had the gull to give it a 2 star, 4 gave it 3, 39 gave it a 4 star and 301 gave it a 10/10 perfect 5 star review. That's 87%! I've never seen that before on a Gamer Supps flavor! This isn't an AD I am just expressing admiration for the man whom (with his community's support(I pointed this out because I believe J would have)) was able to create a flavor of Gamer Supps so good that the first review I saw of it was long enough to be a copypasta. Haven't even gotten the chance to try it and I already want to give it 5 stars 100 out of 10 certified hood classic with the added bonus of tricking your friends that you drink piss with a P.S. that reads "Best drink that looks the same whether its going in or out".

Heyo J. I wanted to say I love your videos, but also I wanted to say something you said at 2:06. You CAN make tank build, but it requires so much grinding and knowing certain items and traits exist on top of knowing that the game tries to trick you into Challenger being the tankiest Archetype. I am kinda sad it is not. It also means you need to know that when you max out an Archetype you can get their traits for other Archetypes, but you have to invest points into it. I agree to an extent because it really depends on what you know is in the game. Sorry quick edit I wanted to say I don't disagree with the fact you have to learn how to dodge. Sadly you do even in the first game you had to learn how to dodge as well on Apocalypse, but you can still make a tank build with dodging.

I made myself a tank build. Use damage mitigation with heavy armor. The max % blocked by armor 80%, so you get armor up ask close to 80% as possible then stack incoming damage reduction rings. I can face tank solo on Nighmare and actually take a single hit in multiplayer.

well, tank builds do exist and work.. but here tank mainly means "very few things oneshot me and I can stay alive with more mistakes/recover from them without having to create distance and heal", not "I can eat the attacks of bosses and not care". My own cracater in apocalypse shouldnt try and take more than one or 2 hits, but damn do I recover from them quickly without needing to stop attacking. oh you can definitely make a tank build. had a dude join me and a friend on nightmare for the ravager fight to get merciless. we got a quarter of its health gone before me and my friend died and the random had a build where he was flopping and tanking hits. his build had him at half health constantly and he was getting shields constantly proccing aswell. he solod the rest of the ravager fight on his own and got the us the merciless.

Pretty much felt the same way about the game -- love the gameplay, like the amount of stuff to find and I enjoy the puzzles (even if some of them are BS like you said). And thankfully once you get through the annoying story stuff you can just skip every cutscene and dialogue. A lot of little QoL stuff could be added and probably will. Gunfire Games, I actually trust them to deliver a good product aside from the writing lol

I have a tank build with 147% dr that I solo Apoc with. You become a god. With free regen to also heal away the scratches left by bosses. Tldr you CAN make a tank build. Just takes some build knowledge.
