Hey Gang! We're Back! Thanks for being patient with us as we get back into the swing of things. If you didn't know Pops went all the way from Southern Louisiana to Washington State in a big move for my sister/his daughter and it took about 2 weeks when all was said and done! The move went smoothly and everyone is safe but now it's time to get back to work! In today's video we prep and install back board in our shower. This is an importance process because when you tile all imperfections in framing WILL be shown! If you enjoyed the video be sure to hit the like button and consider subscribing! Let us know what you think of the genre change! Thanks for watching and we'll see ya in the next one!

Paul you made me laugh out loud when you pulled out the rigged car fob. You are truly a man after my own heart. I tried using the thermal lock tite for cars on my key fob but it didn’t work for me. I have to say I will be trying the Schluter Kerdi Fix just to see if it can be done.

Great job, just a suggestion, I always make sure I have a stud at the edge of the face of the tub, from floor to ceiling to provide backing for shower doors or a curtain rod. Love the videos.

I've watched your channel for a while. In fact, just this morning I watched the Hawaii bathroom remodel while eating breakfast. I'm getting to the point where I'm about to hang the cement board but realized I needed to shim the studs, I was really happy that this video popped up in the search. Thanks for all the lessons and advice! Keep up the good work Jordan, Paul, Rad and everyone behind the scenes.

Missed Ya! You have the best DIY on U tube and TV. I put Styrofoam in my bathroom walls instead of fiberglass because it won't soak up any moisture, figured it's safer and can't get soggy. Great job with the shims and cement board.

Yeah those furring strips are great for flattening your plane. Sure makes the setting easier. Believe I'd have added studs to the long wall though, seeing as PermaBase has the least stiffness of about any backer due to the fact that a big part of it's aggregate is styrofoam. Flimsy stuff. But also - and this the bigger reason - because PermaBase requires a max of 16"oc studs and you have about 20"oc. The flimsiness in the backer won't allow your mud lines to collapse properly and when it springs back can actually push your tile back out causing insufficient mortar coverage at stud locations. I don't like PermaBase for walls unless max of 12"oc stud work and never for large-format work especially natural stone.

Love your videos, learning soo much, saw all of the kitchen remodel (amazing). You and your son are great and appreciate taking your time to show us the steps. Questions: what is the point of the mesh b/w each board? Is it for waterproofing or to make the expansion and contractions uniform b/w all the boards.

I’ll guarantee you From experience that taking the time to shim then walls out like that will make laying the tile go so much easier on you. I’ve done so many tubs and showers where I have either had literally next to no mud on one side of the tile and an inch of mud on the other side and it makes for a nightmare job. I usually do like you was showing with nailing blocks to the side of the stud all in straight plane but with lumber costs your way is definitely better. I’ve always wondered how hard and how time consuming it would be to do it that way and like always. You make it look easy and did a perfect job per the usual

what's the best technique to cut very thin shim/furring strips between 1/16" to 1/8" ? Thats all I need to bring my walls out to the tub flange. I prefer not to slope the backerboard . Thanks

Would you be able to show how you did that dry wall transition to flush with the backerboard because once you add shims to the studs wouldn't that also bring the backer board out as well 🤔. Thank you and love the videos so far.

Sure! That's always a tricky transition. There's a shot of it in our video: check out 11:35 on kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXSkapt3bMaZe7c Used Schluter Rondec and ripped narrow pieces of tile for infill.

The plastic electrical box makes me nervous, I would want to waterproof the back of Plastic electrical box In the event the shower ever developed a leak thus preventing a potential electrocution. (and yes GFCI too)

After furring out the tub walls, what do you do for the transition from the cement board to the drywall since it sticks out and not flush with the drywall? I’m doing my bathroom and stuck on figuring out how to do this without furring out the drywall too. Thanks for the videos!

Reality a pro will not take the time to get cuts perfect..you would.. grinder and a cutting wheel you can walk it in..not many cuts like that but to my eyes it's the difference ... pros good enough grout it.. sorry it would piss me off.. last bathroom job ...I finished the plumbing hookups.. symmetry..looped hoses just right...drain clean and perfect.. exhaust fan over shower adjusted the rafter to be exactly centered..outlets by sink both sides exactly balanced... had to move them... shower doors the coin trick... my doors never leak... bathrooms need precision.... it is definitely noticable.. contractor asked hey who did the electrical perfect....me..... I have sold 7 homes with flawless inspection reports..plus buyers definitely see precision and pay for it...

LOL! I went back in time to see this video, it will be one of my winter projects coming up. However, I will say that without Jordan, Paul is not as funny; all business!! Must be cause he was wearing a few hats: cameraman, director, nararator, and worker bee. Had a question about the shim attached to some strapping? What is strapping? I don't see any screws on the sheetrock side. I would like to learn, just cause I probably would have added a stud, but these are the tricks I tune in for. Please advise.
