The procedure shown here for the Pearl® FFXP-1412, which packs snappies on both heads, can be adapted to the Yamaha® MTS-9214, which packs a snappy under the batter and the FiberTech snare (12 strands) on the resonant.

B. C. Schmerker for the MTS how do you fine tune the height of the batter snare mechanism, I bought my schools old snare and it’s just a bit to high. When it’s off a ff notes makes the snares rattle. When it’s on it makes such an ugly sound and presses against the batter head.

It's for an articulate sound, mostly for when you have a drumline consisting of anywhere from 6 to 10 people where you need all of the rhythms to be absolutely crystal clear sounding. For pipe band drumming, that particular sound has just been a thing.

I have a an older premier pipe band snare. That top snare still isn’t right. It’s either muffled too much or rattles too much. The top head is torqued tight enough and evenly torqued down. Any pointers?

What would this sound like with a kevlar bottom head?
@dorkthrone
@dorkthrone Жыл бұрын
It would sound awful, since pipe bands use metal snares similar to the ones on a set snare. It calls for a fairly thin reso head to make sure the snares are properly engaging with the head.

Aren't pipe band snare drums the same thing as marching snare drums, if not, why do they sound the exact same?
@jeremygalsim2484
@jeremygalsim2484 5 жыл бұрын
elilovestrains They most definitely don’t. Pipe drums have an extrememly poppy snare sound. In normal marching snares, they are less ‘snarey’, but still very articulate. These have lots of snare sound because of two sets of wire snares on the bottom of both the batter and snare side heads. In normal marching drums, they only have a synthetic snare on the snare side head. Take a listen to this drum, then go to a drum corps style line. While both snappy and articulate, these drums resonate even less and thus create a more ‘tik’ sound vs. a more shortened ‘tuh’ sound.

@@elilovestrainsplanesmore1101 The biggest difference between pipe band and marching snare drums is the pipe band snares are tuned quite a bit higher than the "regular" marching snares and the pipe band snares use metal snare wires under the bottom AND the top head. They've got a lot more snare sound. They're also played with lighter sticks in a completely different technical style. The technique closer to a jazz drummer's hands than a rock/funk/fusion drummer's hands like in American marching bands.

Pipe band drums are specially made to take the tension they need to be tuned. I've looked up what drum you have and it's a kit drum, the snare mechanism that's inside a pipe band drum for the top skin wouldn't fit that drum, the mechanism itself is almost as big as in the depth of your drum! And then there's the tension, the top of the drum has 2 rings, and the head is between them both. Looks up info on what a pipe band drum is and then you will understand why.
@DanielDossey
@DanielDossey Жыл бұрын
@@MacArthurPiper no, the Pearl FFX is an American marching snare. It could handle the tension, but I don't know what you would need to convert it to a pipe band snare. I don't believe anybody sells a conversion kit. @Miles Parker, I realize this thread is 8 years old and you likely don't care by now, but to answer the question for anyone else, you'd likely just have to buy a used pipe band snare and cannibalize it to see if you can use it's parts for your Pearl FFX. Never seen it done before. Would love to find out how it went though if someone did it!

Marching snare drum are the same as Marching pipe drum ?
@tootsNtaps
@tootsNtaps 9 жыл бұрын
+Rafael Rodrigues They are very similar, but pipe band snares have an additional set of snares on the underside of the main head along with the standard snare on the bottom of the drum. This gives it a sharper sound which is really needed against bagpipes.
@bendavis1769
@bendavis1769 7 жыл бұрын
Rafael Rodrigues not really... i mean kinda but pipe band snares are cranked their heads to the brink but standard American marching snares tighten their heads not extremely tight but at a good median to where the drum can speak and respond
