CQ WPX SSB Contest 2020 was an unusual Ham Radio Adventure for me. Because of closed international borders, I couldn't operate from OH73ELK 😔
I don’t have a Shack at my small flat in St. Petersburg but, thanks to a local radio amateur R1BAT, I got the opportunity to take part in this Contest REMOTELY. The internet connection at his Shack wasn't ideal but I tried my best to participate 😊
Imagine having S9 of QRM noise during most of the contest and then, at the most important moment, you just don’t hear anything at all (because of internet interruption)
Still, I had a nice time and it was really good to have the chance to work from Russia with my own callsign UB1AOA!

Raisa what a scary time it was in 2020. You would do well on 2m and 70cm SSB being so high but I know this isn't your thing...your location reminds me of when I was in a hotel in Moscow 28 floors high. What do you use for remote access, remotehams ? Beautiful flat you have

My Dear you need to do some set up at home. I knew qrms etc. Lets go to be independent. I have angry. You are so charm. Dont be Marketing tool any more for this rental radio shack. Go your own way. Thanks for this ham radio op who let you this remoute control Panel. Well done 73 88888 we all love you...
@YLRaisa
@YLRaisa 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the emotional positive signal! As for the "marketing tool", I have a correction - I have been part of the ELK project from the very beginning and thanks to this project I got into our Radio World. In addition, it is not just a "rental shack" - this is a place for combining of Ham Radio and Family vacation and also place of generating of new friendships and ideas! And also a place where I learn a lot about new aspects of our hobby: I learned there the basics of Ham Radio with Jukka OH2BR, I learned about Flora Fauna when our guest Ric DL2VFR came to us for the first time; I learned about SOTA from our guest David CT1DRB, I first worked in Contest as a team with our guest Gert-Jan PE2W, etc. If you read reviews and feedbacks of ELK - Radio guests you will see, that they also think: it is not just a rental shack... And I hope that there will be many more interesting meetings on our ELK - Island in future and also new discoveries for me in Ham Radio. However, you are right - I also want to develop my own "independent" way in Ham Radio, mostly in Russia. That is what I am doing on this Channel and I hope for your support in the future. Because it is not easy.

@@YLRaisa When your balcony is facing south, you could consider setting up a QO-100 station (geostationary satellite). This requires a small dish antenna (80cm) and some equipment like LNB and 13cm transmit converter. Using this satellite you can work 1/3 of the world all the time, there are no propagation conditions, except extreme snow (just like satellite TV).
@YLRaisa
@YLRaisa 3 жыл бұрын
@@Rob2 my balcony is facing north :) and I like really HF QSO , depending on propagation - it is like lottery
@Rob2
@Rob2 3 жыл бұрын
@@YLRaisa Yes, that certainly is a disadvantage of QO-100. It is like a local repeater, except it covers 1/3 of the earth. The only lottery is "who is QRV?" and when someone is QRV you can work them. When that is not your thing, certainly stay with HF.
