A remote receiver site that was in operation from 1985 till 2001.
This was controlled by DTMF on 160 meters and later changed to 2 meters 147.475 the down link was on uhf 439.925. Power was from a 50 watt solar panel charging a set of six
200Ah cells for 12 volts. The DTMF powered relays for control and switching various fixed radios, there was a 2 hour time out in case control was lost and also an open mic could be turned on to hear bush sounds and would also come on if some one or thing crossed an infrared beam. Although fixed receivers were used they were quite wide and if one took the 10.7mhz IF from the radio and fed it into a comms rx you could tune about 20kc either side off the centre although the remote radios were AM you could add a local osc to the recovered IF and get readable ssb but as the IF was FM it did not sound that good. It was mainly set up for AM on 160 and 80. It is a very low noise site and it would be easy to put some thing more modern up and use mobile data but the trees have gotten much higher and getting solar power is an issue. Included are some examples of the reception.
