Great review bruv. Considering one of these so this video helps immensely 👍

@Ollie-Alpha-Koi thanks. If you do go ahead and purchase one, be sure to also purchase test solution for ORP as it's not the most reliable for this parameter.

Another very good informative video again Simon I like that tester just have to see what they retail at but I’m impressed

Hi Si, did you get feedback on the fluctuations in the ORP ? Watched the Video and very impressed! But want to use the ORP reading
@UpNorthKoiPond9 ай бұрын
Excessive fluctuations in ORP readings has been seen to be caused by poor quality AC adapters. Once a better quality AC adapter was used on the probe, the readings became much more stable. I used a spare Samsung USB AC adapter. What's also important is to have ORP calibration/test solution so you can double check the accuracy of the reading. I go by a philosophy when it comes to parameter monitoring that I employ whilst using test equipment at work, but the same philosophy transfers into koi keeping water monitoring, and that is; "test the measurement, prove the accuracy (with calibration solution), and test the measurement again" Doing this you won't go far wrong. See far too many not bothering to check the accuracy of their measuring equipment and take a reading for granted. Hope this helps 👍

Looks a good monitor, just ordered one. Bugger I need two sockets though, can the display take batteries? They say the ORP probe takes 7 days to settle. Think I'd maybe been better off with the wired one, didn't see it on their site though. Cheers

Hi mate. Yes it does require 2 sockets, probe & display. Unfortunately it doesn't take batteries. With the ORP reading, it depends what you mean by settle. If it's up and down by a couple of numbers then yes it will settle, if it's bouncing erratically then no, it's a fault. I had the problem and it was because of the plugs supplied aren't great. If it say goes from 200 - 3/400, then it's faulty. Measuring devices shouldn't need time to settle, certainly not days. they're either reading correctly or they're not. I would recommend getting yourself some ORP calibration solution suitable for platinum probes so as you can check it's reading right for yourself. I use the hanna 240mV solution 👍

@@UpNorthKoiPond hi, this is what I was referring to taken from their FAQs, being as you illustrated use straight from the box it's worth people knowing. WHY HAS MY ORP BEEN FLUCTUATING AND UNSTABLE? It's completely normal! In daily use, REDOX requires a certain amount of oxidation time, generally takes more than a week. The ORP of the new monitor is usually under 100 when it is first used, so the value displayed by your monitor is a normal fluctuation. Please be patient and use it for more than one week.

@KoiKicks yeah take no notice mate, That's false. Any accurate measuring probe will take the reading and stabilise within a few hours. Take a handheld pH tester for example or even a handheld ORP probe, you literally have to wait a few minutes for it to give you a reading. If the numbers are dramatically changing from one reading to another, there is an issue. That issue will either be the AC plug supplied, or the probe itself. The ORP of the water will be constantly changing, but it's a gradual change unless something has been added like PP or Chlorine, which is why I say the reading shouldn't be bouncing. Up and down by a 5-10 or so mV is quite normal, bouncing around between 2/3/400 is problematic 👍

@@UpNorthKoiPond I've had 2 probes now and not had a stable reading 😆 salt in the pond though so monitoring orp is pointless. Don't get me started with pH monitoring devices, hence why I've plumped for this device in the hope it had some longevity. I see many comparing the Kactoily readings to other devices like they're 100% sure the other device is correct 😆. For me it's about stability not so much exact readings as exact doesn't exist with low end equipment and periodic calibration. I see so many fuss over this especially ppm tds, when pens actually use a conversion. We men like gadgets but they shouldn't be relied upon alone as more often than not they aren't accurate 😆.

@KoiKicks for sure mate, I don't think you are too far away from myself, you sound like a fellow northern monkey 😆 feel free to come visit mine and I will demonstrate exactly what I mean with the readings and just what accuracy and stability actually is👍😃 I tell people often that ask me about them, make sure you buy calibration/test solution, it's so important. Like I said, feel free to visit😎

Great review Simon. It would be even better if it connected to wi-fi and could be monitored remotely via an app.

iv bought one of these units after watching your video im having the same problem with the orp the reading keeps jumping around 82 than to 282 did you sort your one out at all.
@UpNorthKoiPond6 ай бұрын
It's the USB AC adapter that causes the massive fluctuations initially, but even then after swapping that, the ORP readings are quite innacurate after a period of time. It's important to check it's accuracy initially before proper use with ORP test solution

Did you have any luck with your orp reading?
@UpNorthKoiPond10 ай бұрын
Yes, It's a fault of the supplied AC adapters. Use a quality one such as one supplied by Samsung and the likes👍
@michaelreeves983810 ай бұрын
@UpNorthKoiPond o cool I will give that a try. Mine is just showing 165 all the time
@UpNorthKoiPond10 ай бұрын
@michaelreeves9838 if it's a stable reading then it's working fine. It's only if the reading is bouncing around erratically there's an issue. To test it, put the probe in tap water that contains chlorine or even in a small container of Potassium permanganate, it should rise up considerably.
@michaelreeves983810 ай бұрын
@UpNorthKoiPond changed it out and is now not fluctuating, but EC went from 473 to 927
