My 05 has small sized hole for solenoid and the screw piece doesn't allow me to remove it completely. I'm gonna try taking off half the valve cover and slide it through the gap. Should save tons if time vs removing all the other bs yea?

You don't need to take the valve cover off to get to the t25 screw and change the vct or vvt solenoid

All you have to do is pull that plastic cover off pry it off take tee 27 torx Screwdriver and loosening up pull it out put a new ring back on don’t need to take the valve cover off

Correct - for the 04, 05, 06 year model F150's. This video was mainly for when you were doing a timing job and you were going to remove the valve covers anyway. Makes it easier to remove the covers and not have to replace the VCT seals, when you remove the solenoids this way.

I know this is and older video but can I remove the grommet in the 07 model? I have seen mixed answers on this. Mostly saying 04-06 you can remove the grommet but 07 and newer requires you to remove the valve cover for the solenoid

I dont think you can/hole is smaller on the new style to remove the VCT. would have to take the valve cover off.

Taking the head off to do the VCTs is a completely unneccesary.

Greg Mortimer I agree with you. Read the description though. This was part of a timing job. So I was already taking the valve covers off. Removing the VCTs the way I did helps remove the valve covers.

This does not apply to 08 and up so try to be more informative.

Wrong. 08+ you have to, the seal and opening around them in newer gens are tweaked so you can’t remove them without doing so.

So do I have to remove my heads on my 09 5.4? Just to remove the VCT’s or can I still pry off the plastic cover and unscrew from there and pull off?
@CraigSmith13 жыл бұрын
Did you replace your vct's,? I have the same year and just read that I need to take the value cover off to access the screw. www.fordf150.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=130936

No you do not have to take the valve cover off. Remove the plastic gasket and use a long t25 into the hole remove the screw and pull out the old vct.
@Pr.2104 Жыл бұрын
@@jjamm2 yes you have to remove the valve covers to access them, Ford redesigned the valve covers from 2008-2014 but 2003-2007 you can pry off the plastic solenoid cover and do so with a long T-25

How do you know when it needs to be replaced?

You'll get a rough idle like stumbling over itself after engine warms up after driving it. The screens get covered or gummed up not allowing them to change the timing back to idle after it moves the timing from driving it higher rpms. It'll cause engine to rough idle and sometimes stall out
