Any ideas what they could of done wrong? Mind you they also did sway bar links and control arm bushes so the whole back end has been tossed a bit but the guys reckon they aren’t at fault when they raised the issue first and it felt smoother before I forked out 2k
@BrowneysGarage4 жыл бұрын
@Matthew Felice-Nicolay Sorry to hear mate. I'm far from an expert but I'd suggest starting with the basics if you can, go through and nut and bolt check everything in the rear. I remember the rear of this car being all over the place when I first got it and found that one lower control arm bolt where they attach to the cradle was slightly loose and was giving some play - this car had a bit of a sketchy history! Beyond that get a good full wheel alignment check? There is very little adjustment in the rear I believe but this may show up anything out of the norm?

@Beer_Dad19752 жыл бұрын
I had to have this done on my G6E turbo at 90,000km as the rear bush was flogged out & the other two on the way out also - stupid design as the bolt literally writes around in the bush and hogs it out - pretty much doesn't matter what bush material you use, the engineering of it will guarantee it'll flog out before it should. I didn't have a hoist, so after reading through the workshop manual I decided to pay someone else to do it - it was $1800 NZD all up from memory, but that was years ago, probably be a lot more than that now given how much more tradies are paid these days. It was just about due for another round of replacement when some stupid cow ploughed into the back of the car whilst she was looking at her phone and wrote it off. Now I have a Lexus GS460, and the diff cradle engineering is so vastly superior - really don't know why Ford didn't sort this out after so many years.

Boy do they, plenty of people let me know about it! I wonder how many have actually used them though, I haven't had any dramas to date but haven't been under to suss them out recently unfortunately. Amazing video Brownie, your editing is getting good, great job. You're going to piss off plenty of mechanics with this stuff ;) Here's an idea for a future video. Just to clarify, I don’t know the difference between a diff and a diff bush. All i need is some guidance
@BrowneysGarage4 жыл бұрын
@Meagan Reilly Hi Meagan, happy to try help but just a little unclear. Is this for new diff bushes (as replaced in this video you've commented on) or upgrading/replacing the whole diff? Diff bushes would certainly be more common to do than the diff itself, as the diff generally has a very long life unless there's a LOT of abuse & extra power or accident damage - normally at least. The labour for these 2 jobs will be much the same as the whole diff cradle (the assembly worked on in this video) has to come out for either job, but prices for parts will vary. If diff bushes need doing then I'd say that's a bit high, under $1k seems more reasonable. Perhaps you could post on a BA/B Series owners Facebook group with where your located for local recommendations of who will tackle it cheaper? If it's the diff itself that needs replacing it will vary a lot depending on what you can get one for second hand or rebuild cost, then probably best to do diff bushes while it's out any way and you could quickly be looking at a decent price for what it is.

@@BrowneysGarage yea. My first 08 FG. I paid a mechanic to do it. Cause I needed it done ASAP to pass rwc. Sold that car. Had another Commodore. Then decided to buy another FG. 2012 MK2 this time. Bushes need doing ofc. But it's already rwc. So i was like maybe I'll just do it myself. Then I watched this and reminded myself why mechanics charge $500 to do it. Lol

@Moo Moo one of those jobs that just takes a heap of time, really wish I had a hoist for this one - and this isn’t even the hard part. Glad I’ve done it once though 😂 And $500 would be pretty fair price for sure, definitely worth it to be someone else’s problem!

@@BrowneysGarage where did you get it done for $500, a lot of mechanics are quoting 1.5K n shit

More of a problem with the AU series, very difficult finding parts

Was just quoted 3k for this

Don’t pay that mate unless that’s the price for a heap of other work with it. That’s a ‘we don’t want to do that job, so we’ll charge enough to make us want to do it’ price 🤣

It's much more difficult with decent quality bushes mate. SuperPro bushes are far superior as offer lifetime warranty, but are a fair bit more difficult to install.
@BrowneysGarage4 жыл бұрын
@Mick Holgate Better quality = harder to install? Not sure about that mate, and if you’re basing it off a lifetime warranty Nolathane also offer it. I’m all for people having preferences and I have no brand loyalty but a few things don’t add up there.
@mickholgate33474 жыл бұрын
@@BrowneysGarage they are tighter fitting, I'd never trust that rear nolathane bush as it's a push in version, which is why no performance ford workshop uses them. Check out SuperPro mate, they leave nolathane for dead!

@@BrowneysGarage no they are pressed in (with a press or tool), you cant do by hand ;)

mate I'm not having a go at you, just outlining that there are better bushes that require different installation process, that's all. Your video is good.

Can't believe you used a carpenters claw hammer on the chisel. Not designed for it and can be dangerous as the face is softer than an engineers hammer, ie ball pein hammer.

Using those bushes will make your whole entire drivetrain clunk worse than what it did before you changed them. They are too hard. The bush will last a very very long time but the rest of your driveline wont.

I got quoted 2.5k to get my diff bushes done.

Yeah they really didn’t want to do that job unless they were well over payed for it then! 🤣 That or they wanted to replace a lot of other gear while they were in there.

@@mqrkohcomment was in regards to changing diff mounting bushes. More of a dig at Ford, than this creators video. The need to entirely remove the back end of a vehicle to replace diff mounting bushes makes as much sense as pulling your entire engine out to change the oil filter.

Terrible design, Ford. First on rubbish dump. Nolathane Compound is to hard. Just replace with the rubber ones. Nolathane also crumbles.
