Its worth mentioning that the ba bf and fg have variances in the cradle. The biggest one to be wary of is the ba bf has shorter shafts because the mounting points for all the arms on the ba bf cradle is closer to the centre. The diff bushes also change between ba bf at some point. I've recently just finished my diff swap myself installed bf mk2 xr8 m86 lsd into my fg mk1 cradle with custom spindle to fit up to my tailshaft. So good to have it back on the road. Also congrats on another good video I would have loved to watch this before I tackled it myself haha it was definitely easier removing the cradle then putting it back in myself haha

When you’re spinning the tyre you’re spinning the gear inside the diff, this spins the spider gear (the gear attached to the ring gear) in place, since it would encounter more immediate resistance spinning the ring gear around. The ring gear is connected to the driveshaft, then the transmission and maybe the engine. Now the rotation has gone through the spider gear it reverses. Think about a flat horizontal gear from above, engaged with two vertical gears, as it rotates clockwise, the gear on the right spins towards down, the left gear spins towards up.

@chris929rr74 жыл бұрын
@@BrowneysGarage The brakes are a nice upgrade apparently and it's about all I have left to do on the old girl. All that is required is: - A set of BA brake upgrade caliper mounts from ebay. - A good used set of BF turbo 2005 onwards front calipers. - New 322mm front discs. - Some decent front pads. @BrowneysGarage3 жыл бұрын
Diff bushes are a bit of a pain but not the biggest deal, not going to stop the car driving at least. If you suspect they're gone maybe factor in $6-900 in the price when buying, seems to be going price if a workshop replaces them. Thanks for watching and good looking with the car shopping 👍

Great videos. When checking for LSD by jacking the car up. Ensure the transmission is locked, either Park or in gear being a manual. If not it might appear you have an LSD because the crown wheel will be rotating with the prop shaft. By locking this, only the half shaft and spider gears will rotate.

Hears a tip undo the shocker 15mm from the body. Don't undo the wheel speed sensor just open the door and pop the rear seat up and unplug it. Don't undo the 3 15mm on the blade bushes arms. Undo the 2 18mms up further. Those 3 15mms can be an absolute bastard to undo. Always mark the position of the nut on the handbrake. And always always always mark where those weights on the the tail shift were or hellllo vibrations. Any questions in relation to anything ba bf. Holla. Dismantled thousands of them. The two front bushes need to be seated in by 5mm from flush this will stop the knocking when driving on road. I have had the knocking when I bought my bf second hand and I did a lot of research and found out that if you don’t seat them in the 5mm you will have knocking even if you put new bushes in. I told my mechanic and he was happy to listen and insert them in and I haven’t heard that annoying knocking from the diff since.

Yep, the IMS twin diff bush you refer to looks like a great bit of gear. But at around $1k + labour if needed plus still having to add the price of the front bushes on top it's just not economical for a lot of people until you're pushing some good power and abuse through it. Maybe one day...
