Remove Bed - Tundra. Make a Flat bed?

I used my kids swing set to hoist up my Tundra first gen bed and drive out from under it. To remove the bed:
-Remove torx bolts in the bed (qty 6). You'll need an impact driver or a long breaker bar.
-Remove the fuel filler neck support (2 bolts). Look under bedside behind fuel door.
-Disconnect tail light connectors and release any clips holding trailer hitch wiring to the bed.
-Lift the bed vertical until it clears the tires and don't scratch the cab!

Attention Tundra owners...Suggest replacing your rear shocks whenever you remove the truck bed. The top bolt of the rear shocks are very difficult to access when the bed is in place.

They replaced my brake lines and LCAs when they replaced the frame. They were afraid of breaking something when trying to swap the LCAs so they just cut them off and replaced. Didn't cost a dime idk got lucky I guess. Still wish I could've replaced a couple more things when they had the body off. BTW mines a 2000 4x4 SR5 regular cab long bed with 121000 on the odo

Wow. It never occurred to me to keep part of the original floor create a flatbed from there. Seems like a great idea! Have you seen this done successfully? Would love to know more on this concept. Thanks!

Scott Davenport seems like you could keep the floor and build a flat frame around the edge. Or build a metal frame and rest the flat floor on top of it for more strength. Just make sure to leave room for the tires to rise when you hit a bump or carry a heavy load.

Harry Krumpacker yes it was replaced before I bought it. I don’t know if they still offer it but definitely call them up with your vin number

Harry Krumpacker I heard in a Facebook group I’m in that they are still replacing frames for access cab tundras. Definitely worth taking your truck in and asking about

Yes definitely try to contact someone with your vin. Do you know if it was manufactured in one of the northern states Toyota? should tell you on your door jamb sticker. Mine was replaced in 2017 and it still looks almost new starting to show a little flash rust in some tucked in areas. going to be removing my bed soon to throw a coat of Por-15 or chassis saver on the frame rails etc... and finishing it off with whole body exterior T-Rex bedliner

@@DadsGotADeal upstate ny. I have a thunder grey 2000 trd tundra and my bed is literally shot. Floor is rotted, front corner is sagging like 2 inches. Wheel wells are shot.

Ricky Osborne Aw man. Shoot. I was gonna be driving up there Christmas but due to Covid my trip is cancelled. It’s a shame there isn’t a good way to get rust free parts up to you guys up there. I just started parting out my tundra because the rusted parts keep breaking and it’s never ending. I found an fj and I’m putting my rusted tundra engine in it. Parting out the truck

@@DadsGotADeal damn dude yeah I have two tundras but the beds suck on both.. boss has a first gen with 87k on it that's as rotted or possibly worse than my one with 220k but my dd one is the same color as yours

Ricky Osborne ya my 2000 only has 98k miles but my driveshaft, gas tank, steering lines, brake lines, exhaust... all broke this year from rusting out!
