Very clear demonstration; thank you. I have been struggling with removing sleeve cap ease. These days, I mostly sew knits. Yet, I have a huge collection of nice patterns meant for woven fabric. (All are from the big 4 US pattern companies plus Burda.) Even for woven, I find that almost all patterns have TOO MUCH sleeve cap ease. So I must make new sleeve patterns especially for my knit fabric. Using the slash and spread method to remove ALL of the sleeve cap ease for woven fabrics, my concern is that this significantly alters the size of the sleeve, especially at the bicep area. So, my question is, for example, if you remove 1.5 inches, this will remove close to 1.5 inches at the bicep area. Is there any way to add back some “fabric”, esp. in the bicep area?

When slashing and overlapping the sleeve cap to reduce ease the amount reduced from the bicep will be considerably less, and most often does not alter the bicep enough to matter. Happy Sewing!!

Q:Is it possible to adapt a pattern designed for knit so that you can use it with woven, or visa versa?
@IslanderSewingSystems Жыл бұрын
No, well yes but it would be more work than it's worth. I suggest making a bodice sloper for woven fabrics and a separate sloper for knits. Once you have your personal slopers made you can adapt any patterns to fit perfectly before cutting!

would that work for removing ease from a princess seam side peace? but maybe just making a line throgh the center of the ease instead of making 4 lines like here?
@IslanderSewingSystems2 жыл бұрын
No, you should not remove the ease from a princess seam. If it is drafted properly there shouldn't be that much ease. For example I am working on a D cup pattern now and it has 1/4" ease at the princess seam cup area. Happy Sewing!!

Wow, in checking my newer big 4 patterns against my older ones, I have several that have the same curve front and back! No wonder I felt like I had forgotten how to insert a sleeve.😖 It also seems to me, over the years, that the instructions on the newer patterns are not as good as the older ones. I am sure this frustrates a lot of new sewists. So sad they put out incorrectly drafted pieces.

Yes it is frustrating! That's why we are so proud of our patterns. You will never find a poor draft or pieces that don't fit together and our instructions go beyond complete with lots of extra tips. Happy Sewing!!
