Thanks a ton for putting this up, Ryan. I was not raised in a household with someone to teach me anything mechanical, so things like this are a goldmine. You skipped nothing, and made it pretty easy to follow along and learn. Your work here with this is sincerely appreciated.

Excellent video and very informative!! The only thing you may want to do (if ever changing it again or removing for any repair) is wrap a piece of newspaper around your forks and/or masking tape to keep from accidentally scuffing your fender upon installation. Another helpful hint is the fender bolts are 14-18 FT-LBS of torque. That's what I learned while replacing my 2002 FLHTC But again great video!!

You should follow the maintenance manual ... Torque the axle nut to 50-55 ft-lb. Put a 7/16" bit through the hole in the axle and spread the right fork until it just touches the bit. Then tighten the holder nuts to 132-180 ft-lbs. This pre loads the forks....Chap 2 page 11......

IF the nuts for pinch bolts are not perfectly gapped, will it cause rotor to act like warped ? Giving someone pulsating when braking
@lkazanov9 жыл бұрын
Ryan, awesome video as always...just, please, use a torque wrench. I know you've probably done this a thousand times, and I know some mechanic hands are as a accurate as a torque wrench. It's just good practice. As an aside, a BMW motorcycle has a torque value assigned to every nut and bolt. I kid you not.
@RyanUrlacher9 жыл бұрын
lkazanov I hear you. I would recommend that you torque your nuts and bolts according to manufacture specs. That doesn't surprise me about BMW. Good German engineering.
@DeuceRollinChainSmokin2 жыл бұрын
Harley also has a torque value assigned to every nut and bolt. They are listed in the Harley Davidson Service Manual associated with whatever year bike you have. They release a new manual every year for every model with step by step instructions on everything. It's about $250 but has paid for itself on every bike I've owned.

Hey Ryan...quick question. My rear brake pedal is like frozen and I live in southeast Florida.So its not the cold...lol...I started noticing it getting harder and harder to press after my 20,000 service. It looks like it could use a little bit of fluid.....I opened it up and pressed the brake and could see some interruption in the fluid when i pressed it. Any ideas what could be the cause?. I rode it for a few minutes yesterday and it slowly eased up, but not to where it was. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Great video with some real time saving tips! Very detailed & clear. Thank you! I did however run into a bit of a snag. What type of wrench/socket/tool is used to remove the brake calipers? I've got some odd "multi-pointed" bolts holding them on. Is this a special socket? Thx again!
@RyanUrlacher10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching John and for commenting. My new 2014 is a hex head. On my 2011 it was a torx head if I remember right. It varies from year to year.
@johnhildebrandt400610 жыл бұрын
Ryan Urlacher Thx for the response. I've got a 2012 Ultra Classic and it certainly looks like torx...other than that it's "male" torx. Didn't realize there were torx sockets (female).
@wadetharp3482 жыл бұрын
I have a 2006 road king custom. The calipers are held on with bolts that have "12-point heads" This requires a 12-point socket. Am embarrassed to say I don't have the exact socket but have narrowed it down to a 3/8 inch 12-pointer. In a pinch you can use (heaven forbid) a 10mm 12 point socket. Since i don't have a 3/8inch handy, I'm going with the 10mm because it is a very snug fit and good engagement. NOTE: TORX headed bolts would have six facets/points to match the six faceted TORX socket.
