Thanks so much! I tried the sledge hammer method. Before I watched this video, I damaged a cardigan but hammering the front part of the tag. But I did the same (hitting it on the side) as you did in your video and after struggling for a few minutes I got it off a pair of sweatpants lol! It has a couple of tiny knicks in it but nothing noticeable. My uncle works at a warehouse where if a forklift operator drops a box (clothes, shoes anything in the box) they’ll label it as damaged goods and throw it away; so they ask them if anyone wants anything before it gets tossed out. Don’t you just love how people make assumptions about items being stolen and such? Lol!! I guess what they’ll never understand is that things like this happen all of the time, whether it’s from an in store purchase, online, from a flea market etc. thanks again for you video ☺️

It took me 10 seconds to remove it with a flat screwdriver! A lot less than I spent watching these videos...Simply just put the screwdriver in the hole (where he sticks the hook-like metal "device") and brake plastic. Once the whole tag starts to split, you open it up like a shell. Easy as pie.

Thanks for showing how the mechanism works for those tags where a magnet won't work at the 9:29 mark. I was able to file down and bevel the end of a cheap wire coat hanger and insert it into the hole. After a bit of wiggling the hanger for a few seconds, I was able to unlatch the sides from each other. This took me about 10 minutes total I would say, so add this to your list for the tags that don't work with magnets.

I used a pair of vice-grips on a 'Kohls' tag and gradually squoze the main part on its sides until it was able to be pulled apart. Much more controllable than the hammer method. Then the pin can be easily seen and cut with diagonal cutters. One spring, a little thimble looking thing, and 4 tiny ball bearings shot across the room. So wear glasses! Zero material damage. Thanks for the tips!

Thank you. My mom-in-law bought hubby two pairs of shoes at JCPenny. One pair they removed the tag, the other they didn't but we didn't realize that. Never set off any alarms when we left the store either, so we had no idea. Wish it would have, as it would have been removed then. He wore pair number one for a few months before taking out pair number two. Then we saw the tag but his mom already burned the receipt in her fireplace over the wintertime by then. We asked them at JC Penny to remove the tag and they wouldn't remove it without a receipt, which was no longer in existence. It was very frustrating since it was some employee's fault it was on there. As I was watching this video, I began wiggling the shoe against the side of the tag (this worked since the shoe is thick and sturdy) after seeing you prying here and I was doing it mindlessly, still watching the screen. Next thing I knew the tag was apart! I would never have known to do that though if it hadn't been for your video. Your part 1 video is good too, but I'm glad it just popped off and I didn't have to burn it. The magnet didn't work for me - probably not strong enough. Everyone who says just to pay for it...sometimes spacy cashiers really do forget to remove tags and they don't set off the stupid alarms, which would actually be helpful if they did in these instances when people actually have paid for the items. And since these tags usually would set off alarms, I have no idea who would even try to steal things with them on there anyway. It has to be rare instances when the alarms don't go off. For those who really have paid and have the receipt right then, the alarm sounding would be a big help.

Can confirm: there is no ink in the two tags demonstrated in this video. They run off spooled copper wiring similar to proximity (HID) badges. Which is why they don't always trigger at the door. You have to be walking fairly close to one side or the other. I took apart one after the magnet method worked and there was a spooled copper wire with what looked to be a tiny button capacitor attached to it. Besides this and the metal mechanism showed here, there were no other parts (or room) for an ink resivour. Thanks a lot for the demonstrations!

I got the tag removed! What I did was pushed a fork between the nailhead and the fabric all the way up to the bar. Then I used my wood burning tool to cut pie slices off and the fork protected the fabric from burning and melted plastic. After all of the nailhead plastic was removed I could cut the nail itself. There’s a funny shape on top that would probably make a bigger hole in the fabric if you don’t cut it. The trouble with that blanket was that the faux fur seemed to be super glued to the nail. I had to leave some fur behind but it’s invisible to the overall appearance. I’m sure a regular fabric would have been fine.

Instead of burning the tag to get the guts out, how about heating up a sharp utility knife, or box cutter, until it's glowing hot? Once it's heated, jst slide the sharp end of the knife at the base of where the tit starts & push it thru. If it stalls half-way, heat it up & try again until it cuts/burns all the way thru. No soot mess, no black marks.

The magnet is the intended way to remove these Checkpoint security tags but you need a strong (probably neodymium) magnet. If the magnet doesn't work for you, it's probably just not strong enough. If you don't feel the magnet clearly attracted to the head of the tag, get a stronger magnet. I tried it with 5 1 cm long neodymium magnets and they weren't strong enough. But I grabbed magnetic hook that uses a 3/4" neodymium magnet and it worked immediately. Put the "head" down onto the magnet (even tapping it down onto the magnet can help) then pull the needle out. If you've recently been yanking on the needle as most people do to try and remove it, you may want to initially push the needle back in a bit to "unseat" the ball bearings inside and free them to be attracted to the magnet. But you should feel them jump to toward the magnet and then the needle will come free.

I used a small, aprox 6", pry bar. The kind for removing tacks, nails, braids, trim and molding. It's tapered so it can slide between but tough enough not to bend like forks.

I was shipped a pair of shoes with a tag still in them and the closest location was a half hour away. The hammer method saved me a one hour round trip ride.

Most of the pins have like 4grooves .if you use a thin flat needle nose pliers, you maneuver a bit til you get room. A wire cutter too but I like the pliers. Once you get a space, you jiggle til it loosens. With practice it's fast. Think about the object. Some are a nail head on other side. Or a cone shaped nail... So why go the hard way. If you hold the other side firmly, it makes sense to jiggle the small nail head because logically the small, weak side gives first. As for ink alarms, most are 2 capsules ( dark/ neon) inside the piece. At times you can squeeze it looking at the way it is glued. Even if you can break a piece, chip away breaking it till you see the capsules in the groove. Pop them out gently. The mechanics if you use force spins a metal piece that would pop the capsules. Most stores have gotten better, so a neodymium magnet is it. BEWARE the tags are layered and a sticker alarm is between layers. After all that work you don't want to ring, so remove or w a small scissor make a nice cut which breaks the current. Dressing rooms in better stores are swept w a device that picks up hidden tags, so l feel more comfortable having a drink in a cup which is not see thru, Coke is good . You sink the tags, etc in there and with a top on you dispose carefully, and a straw inside will stop most people today. Many places like Foot Locker have super annoying alarms but NO BELL, SOUND , etc. You can get them off at home using a lighter which is horribly smelly or other method that w be NG in store. I also NEVER stuff anything on the floor, but use various items on one hanger ( neatly), or have thrift store stuff to rehang in case the fitting room is well manned. Idea is the numbers must match. I only work in rooms. Observe nonchalantly how personnel react when an alarm sounds at door. Innocent people usually keep it moving and many don't even realize. It's amazing what you can carry out on your body, so you can show what is inside your shopping bag INCASE. This is an art if done well, but can be addictive.. GOOD LUCK

Wandering George I just did one for my wife, a sweater vest she bought some time ago from now defunct Herberger's. 1 - Put the large part face down at the top of the jaws of a table vise and tighten as much as possible. 2 - with a chisel, (I used a a 3/8 inch mason chisel), or large standard screwdriver place the tip on the seam of the thick end and tap with a hammer until you drive through the case to the pin and it's off. No damage to the material, just make sure you don't get it caught in the vise

In Middle East, even before pandemic, to save time and money I’m shopping online. All my purchases were smooth except for one time that one of the white polos I’ve got still have a tag on it, sending it back is a big hassle. I’ll try the magnet method tomorrow. I didn’t complain (yet) to the store about what happened.

I sent a shirt for my brother back home ( Sierra Leone, West Africa which is thousands of miles away by air to TX) and it has the magnet on it. Yes i still hv my receipt from Burlington coz i hv some home goods on there too, so what would you have me do in a situation like this? Not everybody is a thief and there are genuine reasons for searching up some of this stuff...let's try to understand various scenarios before we judge. I am happy there is a video on here to help out in this situation. $19.99 is not much to some but where we come from, every penny is valuable. Thank you very much for uploading this video....i will ask them to try some methods shown...hopefully one of them will work.
