Remove your Camper Shell Canopy Truck Topper by Yourself.
How I remove unload and store my camper shell canopy from my Ford F-350 Superduty by myself. Easy way to do this just one person. Heavy fiberglass camper shell storage rack.
Heavy lifting can cause harm and injury to your body. Use this information and idea at your own risk.
Doubled up 2x4’s support the weight while cross bracing on the racks prevent any side to side and front to back movement. I use the camper mounting holes to run screws through the camper shell base and the rack. We’ve had 45+mph wind gusts and it stays solid.

Again.... for all of the people commenting about wind... while I appreciate the concern, it’s not an issue for me using this system. *The camper shell gets secured to the 2x4 bracing with the camper clamps. The 2x4 bracing is secured to the I-Beams with screws. The I-Beams are secured to the A-Frames with lag bolts and screws. We get 50+ mph winds frequently out here. It has not moved. Been using it for more than 5 years. Here it is in 45mph wind. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5naY6N8f7mhnJo

Well done and thank you for the instructional video! Have any tips for lifting the shell with only 2 people to get it ON TO the pickup? I have the 6.5' version and with all the glass in, it's very heavy as you know. I only have myself and my wife and I'd like to devise a method to lift the shell to put it on the pickup bed. I have ok strength but I also have a broken back, so other than hiring a couple of guys to do this, do you have a method?

When I build this, I'm going to cut a 4x4 to lay on the ground, that will be jammed against the back tires of my truck. This will have 3 holes drilled through it, so that I can drive spikes through the holes into the ground. This will prevent me from backing up too far when I go to remount the topper.

I pounded 4 t posts in the ground and used pipes where the 2x4's are. On top of the t posts I used top rail fence pieces to support the popes.. This was done on a heavy 8' fiberglass topper on a dually.

Made it just like you said and it totally worked!!! Word to the wise, make sure you choose level ground if you can (obv, but worth saying). I had to put my setup in a field and as I drove the truck forward after getting the camper on the supports, my truck went over a small hump of ground that elevated it to the point that I needed someone to lift the camper support so I could continue. No big deal but not ideal.

I am currently on the fence about getting a camper shell due to how much effort it would be to install and uninstall it but your video has given me a better idea of what to expect and how to counter my apprehensions about it. i personally think ownership of a camper shell is a no-brainer for truck owners that haul more than tow. again, much appreciated.
