Thank you very much!!! I've seen chrome headlights replaced with clear lenses, but not how they drilled the chrome hl out. I tried to figure out how to center a drill so precisely. The method you demonstrated makes much more sense. Again I say thank you!!!

Nice idea! I've got that kit in the stash - when I was a kid back in the early 70s, my gramma had a 69 Galaxie 500 4-door. The 70 Galaxie is about as close as I've come to matching hers. (The police equipment will go on another project - a 76 Trans Am mudding "patrol" car with a supercharged big block Chevy engine!!) I'll have to keep this in mind when I start it. On regular clear lenses, I found that I can use Tamiya clear gloss around the edges of the bezel then set the lens, let it dry, then apply another layer on top - "glues" the lens in with zero fogging. On yellow/orange marker lights, I use Tamiya clear yellow or orange; same with red lights and Tamiya clear red. At times I'll omit the lens if the bezel is shallow enough - the Tamiya clears have a BEAUTIFUL gem effect when put against chrome plating!

@davidparsleyscustomscaleemerge You can always test it on a spare kit first. I have a little suction cup tool that I got for handling windshields -- Micro Mark? -- and it's great for gripping lenses.

I would have normally used a white glue to set the lights and then Pledge to get the shine. I like how you used the Tamiya thin but would it work with kit headlights? Thanks.

Do you ever use MV lenses instead of your jewelry lenses? You can drill them from behind and fill it with silver to simulate the bulb. You're definitely right -- you can't leave those chrome headlights intact, a holdover from the promo days (hence the screw mounts).

You can paint them silver first, or burnish on some aluminum foil, then use the clear yellow/red Tamiya paint.

Here's How I Correct Chrome Headlights Problem ! I use Silly Putty Pressed over original Headlight Lenses to Make a Reverse Mold to recast them on Clear 5 minute Epoxy by Filling Silly Putty & Allowing it to Dry 12-24 hours Next I droll out Chrome Headlights & Do Clean up for the Back of Headlights I use Foil Pie Tin & punch out Round pieces of it using Harbor Freight Round Punch Set select Slightly Larger than Hole then Make it Slightly Domed & Glue on From Back of Grille Next flip grille over & Install Clear Epoxy Lenses

You can find them at either place. They are plastic, but model glue does not work very well on them.
