Old G63 vs New G63! - Cheaper G Wagon AMG Fun?

I just to took delivery of my 2025 g63 amg and I can tell it’s totally a different beast now 🎉 it drives extremely smooth now and corners don’t feel scary now. Also everything has just got so huge upgrade - it’s no brainer. 🎉

I sold my 2017 E63s after 4 years and 70k, and I now have a 2021 G400d. My first ever diesel and something I never thought I’d buy. I test drove it back to back with a 2019 G63 and, being totally honest, the G400d is simply the better car as a daily driver and to actually use for family duties, commuting, and so forth. In my opinion The G63 just felt like it was trying too hard, too much of the time and didn’t feel like I could do big miles in it. ( I did 20k miles a year in my E63s!). I’ll be watching the market as a G450d would be great to get into, but to be honest, I’m still absolutely smitten with my G Class. It has many flaws. I don’t think the boot is big at all. A C Class probably has better rear leg room than a G. But it’s a car that has character. It’s unapologetic in how it goes about its business and you just love it for that. It’s a car that makes you feel you’d keep it forever and hand down to your kids, as you would with something precious like a watch. It’s bizarre in a way, I’ve never thought this way about previous cars I’ve owned. I’m 33 and feel I’ve peaked way too early, as I’ve got my all time dream car. No money on earth would actually make me want to daily anything else.❤

I like how the previous model leans on corners. This is part of the G class' character. My first fast corner in 2023 G63 ended up with one wheel in the air... and I loved it 😂 The G class warned me and showed me its limit... and it was awesome! So... not sure about the new, fancy suspension. The same goes with MBUX .. not a huge fan. The only thing which I like in the new one is keyless entry.

As someone who had the W463 and I now own a W465 G63, the "facelift" is worth it, suspension changes are massive and just having MBUX is gamechanger. The old G63 felt so outdated.

I hate how they removed the IWC clock in the centre console though, other than that the changes are amazing

The MBUX is good in a newer model Mercdes but feel out of place in a G63 (Granted it is outdated). Not to mention its so complicated, flashy and not user friendly. I am a BMW and Porsche guy, never owned a Mercdes but I always test drive ALL the new AMGs, I got put off by the MBUX every single time. The only version that's good was in the facelift V8 C63.

The steering wheel and loss of the IWC watch is unacceptable, they did this with the E63AMG and the car lost its cool

Those who own the old one says I’m good. Those who just bought the previous one says it’s basically the same, those who bought the 25 says it’s completely different. As someone who owns a 2022 and had an allocation for a 2025 and turned it down. The 2025 is nicer interior wise, it wasn’t worth $85k to upgrade. I would rather get an M4 comp or add 25k and get a 911.

I love this guys honesty, I’m not sure if it’s just because I can relate what he’s saying but I really liked this review. Like Merc could easily just skipped this release, so many other manufacturers do that. But one thing that made me chuckle was the whole Apple CarPlay and whatnot…like I just use regular Bluetooth 😂

If I was rich I would configure the facelift they way I'd want it to. But hence the money ain't enough for that, pre Mopf it is. Agree on the steering wheel. Especially in the S AMG there was hardly anything that beat it even 3 price classes above. To be fair Raz these 10:43 are some of their best tach designs ever

I’ve been comparing the prices in Europe between the 2023-2024/25 G63. As much as I’d love to save money on buying an older one. The tech in the Facelift G does standout. I’ll just wait another two years so the 2024/25s are cheaper lol.

My mom bought her g55amg back in 2004 the was no 63 55 was the highest it went and I still never seen one like hers with the Crome light covers on front n rear n on top of the lights on the hood that pop open she still has it 230k miles

I think the new one looks better than the older one. I was never a fan of the style of that big boxy vehicle, but the interior looks incredible on those machines! It certainly has a LOT of fans (and owners) here in the USA. America freakin' loves their SUV's. Especially the giant vehicles like this G-wagon, the BMW 7 series SUV I think it is, their real big one, designed specifically for the US market because they know Americans' love giant SUV's. The bigger the better here in America. I have seen friends spend what I paid for my house on a new BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Land Rover, and Acura big SUV's! No joke. It's crazy how much these big luxury SUV's cost. And the funny thing about it, is that most people who buy these machines, never even take them off road or use them how they were designed to be used. They just buy them as a "status symbol" here in the USA. Trying to outdo the Jones'. Although, I must admit, I absolutely love the design of the new Toyota Land Cruiser they showed at SEMA this year. That SUV looked incredible and it was WORTHY of the high cost it would cost. Toyota said it's only a "concept" right now, but they may build it. I know here in the USA, it would be an instant sell out. It looked that good and had just about every cool option known to man on it. Of course, this Mercedes SUV is incredible in it's own right. I certainly wouldn't turn on down if I had the means to afford one of these. The problem here in the USA is that you could still buy three great cars for the price of a USED Mercedes G-wagon! They retain their value, even for the ones that are completely spent and worn out. Mercedes probably keeps this model alive primarily for the US market where they sell the most of them.

Anyone can say G63 is overrated but it is a purist"s car, a car enthusiast has their own reasons to buy it didn't stand Stronger than time for no reason. I wish this would never become the next Defender.

I understand everything I can understand just one thing they put a camera on the front bumper and a camera on a back bumper. It will get dirty. You will get destroyed. Why would they do that? They should’ve made a different solution to this problem for $200,000 as a owner of one I know what kind of issues did you wagon has front windshield is the problem it cracks very quickly and they should make it twice a steak or at least at the factory put some kind of coating come on guys you make a quality vehicle or vehicle a real off-road vehicle make an option for the side pipes but now

Seems like your looking for a reason to hang on to your old car. Better go get the new facelift, that hybrid system will probably help with fuel and you won’t have to spend everyday at the filling station and add the suspension option too.

It’s not my car, we drive press cars! Hybrid does do much of anything for fuel economy, it’s a mild system that adds some performance.
