Greetings from Youngstown, Florida! I was watching one of your other videos about taking the blue dump bed off of it's truck. I was really interested in your comments about "torquing" the lugs to spec. Now, I don't drive a big rig, having retired for almost seven years, but I do have a handy little Ranger Sport that I do minor grocery runs, etc, with. The story is, a day or so after Hurricane Michael all but blew our part of Florida off the map, I lucked out and managed to run over a pole staple that the power companies use on the sides of their poles. I almost could not find anybody left in town that could fix my tire. After driving almost across the County I found a place and they patched the tire and sent me on my way. Now, almost a year later, I had another flat on that same tire. I tried to take the tire off and it would not budge even with me standing on that four-way and bouncing up and down on it (good way to break a shin or leg, I know). I went and got my electric impact tool that my late wife and I had on our old motor home before we sold it. This thing can easily break lug nuts loose on a motor home so....WRONG! They won't budge! So, I called a local tire shop that specialized in semi and other big rig tires. The young man came out and with the biggest impact that he had could NOT budge any of those lug nuts. Finally, after going over and over each one, he broke one loose. He finally gets all of them, off but one and it's not even thinking about coming off. He kept at it and after a few more tries the thing gives in and comes off. He fixes the tire and I followed him back to the store so that they can check all of the other tires and make certain they are torqued to the right specs for my little truck. As it turned out, that was the ONLY tire that was "welded" to the wheel of the truck. I felt sorry for the young man because he was doing all of this out in my yard with the temps pushing high 90's and humidity off the charts that day. The only thing we can think of that tire being all but impossible to remove is that the guy at the store after the hurricane must have been a new hire and knew NOTHING about using an impact driver to mount tires on a vehicle.....so he cranked it up as high at it would go and made certain the tire wouldn't come off by accident. The one saving grace outside of my truck being repaired right this time is that I had just taken a trip the day before that had me out on I-10 out in the middle of nowhere for quite a few miles. I hate to think of what I'd have done had that tire gone down on me out there! Just goes to prove that just because they are a tire store not all of their employees are guaranteed to know what they are doing.

Not one to go pointing out safety issues barely ever in videos but once I got a hot spark in my eye. It went right behind my glasses. I saw a bright flash and then a ton of pain and it melted into the iris on my eye. I then had a piece of steel imbeded in my eye. I had to go and get it removed. Made me think of it when I saw you cutting. Hey on top of that I had a hot drip go down a hole in my jeans and right into my work boot. I was like a crazed animal trying to get that work boot off. It melted right into the tendon that tilts your foot up. Had to go get that dealt with too. Hmm maybe I am accident prone lol.

9000i series small motor so probably not a 9900i maybe a 9400 with the small hood and set back from axle, definitely an eagle package with the wood grain dash. Whats your opinion on a 94 topkick/Kodiak kingpin front axle and leafs on the front of a 94 silverado? You think it can be done, or would the steering be a nightmare?
@j.c.smithprojects5 жыл бұрын
the first question i have is what it the purpose of doing this? it is just for fun or do you have a purpose. if it is for weight carrying capacity....your weight carrying capacity is only as good as the lowest rated part. you can put a heavy axle under the truck but it will still be a silverado frame. if it is for fun....i still wouldnt do it. i would swap the silverado body over to the topkick frame . this will require modifying the firewall where the brakes and steering column come through.
@allthoseclips5825 жыл бұрын
@@j.c.smithprojects Peace of mind, tired of balljoints being a worry. That and 22.5 tires should last forever. Its a crew cab, long bed dually with a 5.3 swap. (was a diesel). Ill likely never rid of it.
@chris62005 жыл бұрын
@@allthoseclips582 You will run out of years of service left on a 22.5 just like any other tire. They would probably be hard to fit into a Silverado fender anyways. Might I suggest you look into the solid axle suspension that came out of 1990 to 2002 c3500hd cab chassis model trucks. They came on 19.5 tires and have a huge 15000 lb gvwr.
@allthoseclips5825 жыл бұрын
@@chris6200 I thought about the 3500HD SAS, but im pretty sure they use plastic shims for the Kingpins. Also, 22.5 and 24.5 far outlast a 19.5. A 19.5in tire has a lifespan closer to that of a E rated 16in/17in tire.
@chris62005 жыл бұрын
@@allthoseclips582 There is probably no way you could completely use up any commercial tire size on a regular Silverado. You would have to be putting on an insane amount of miles to use them up before they are dry rotted.
