Some rusty crapshoot car you don't want to think about booktime because the book says every bolt is clean and comes out in 2 seconds. Pricing is weird though. I usually go by as long as both parties think they got a good deal its fine. But there are people for which any amount of money is too much.

Once I learned about "maintenance mode" on the MINI, fixing stuff got a lot easier. You can actually thread bolts into the frame rails so the whole front bumper and radiator move forward about 6". Now you can reach the stuff on the front of the engine that is almost definitely leaking. It's a fairly modular design overall.

Had this same exact car. Worst car I had ever owned. 2007 Cooper S had a turbo 4 cylinder Peugeot 206 motor that had constant trouble with the timing chain set, excessive oil consumption to the tune of a quart per fill up, and poorly designed gaskets for oil and antifreeze cooling that were baked at less than 75k miles requiring replacement. I also wound up replacing the turbo at around 72K, plus the gaskets for oil and antifreeze cooling. Wound up replacing belts too. Required full removal of the front end of the car much like this here. Took a month total due to no garage and constant rain. Dealer wanted 6800, I did the work myself for 800.

Good to see a pro in action. An hour 24 minutes is not bad at all, given they charge you six hour for the operation. Reminds me of my time working to make small roads in an estate project. They gave us a month on a 50m stretch and we needed 3 days until tarmac ready. Had to wait for those guys, but still my boss was impressed. I got transferred to the airport maintenance crew, to get things going faster. We had to work very fast, then drive off while planes landed and took off again, then back to work again.

No need to remove u-frame, the bumper cover, then bar, then etc... Just remove 6 13mm bolts on u-frame, disconnect hood cable, remove 3 bolts (1 hard to reach) on each frame rail and disconnect all electrical, then whole front end comes out. This is provided u are willing to disconnect the AC lines and later recharge AC. No need to remove the driver side CV-axle (that always stuck). U can swing the engine out with it.

Not bad. When you know the process that it took to put it together at the factory, it goes quickly (depending on how rusty the bolts are). When I worked at Mistubishi, the time it took for the car to get to the end of the line to be driven off from when the engine went in was two hours. From a bare body to finished was about 4. Some manufacturers went faster than that. You can pull a 350 out of a Camaro in about 90 minutes.

Car Ninja and the Car Wizard are legends… Just to clear up one thing the original BMW MINI was developed by the Rover Group (because BMW didn't know anything about FWD!) and it was meant to be the replacement for the Rover 200 'Bubble' hatchback and the original 1 Series was also meant to be another Rover replacement. Alas BMW got it's greedy little mitts on Rolls Royce and lost interest in Rover. A great shame because if you follow Cold War Motors, Scott and Al are restoring a proper Rover P5 3 Litre. Also Rover were planning to use their own K Series engine and BMW said no and went for the cheaper Chrysler built motor, the rest is history. My old bosses wife used to have one and although it was bigger than my wife's Austin Mini City it was smaller on the inside!

@@jakecletus2824 MINIs didn’t have BMW engines until the F56 chassis onward. This MINI has Brazilian-made Chrysler engine, the next generation had Peugeot engines. The Cooper S engine now is the B48 that you’d find in a new 320i. So no, you’re very wrong, look it up. This first Generation of new MINI wasn't really developed by BMW, but by Rover on behalf of BMW.

My buddies and I drop E30 and E34 engines in less than an hour pretty regularly. Its all about knowing 1 specific car and doing it a lot. Youll just know exactly what size everything is and what order to do it in. Gets really efficient real quick if you dont have to look anything up.

@@davidchi8914 Well considering the massive importance of teachers in society, they should be paid very well, but they're not, and you get poor teachers as a result. A good teacher can leave a lasting impression on a person for their entire life.

@@davidchi8914 A less skilled mechanic will take longer. There is a very solid evidence that the mechanic completed the task. How will you know that the teacher completed the task more quickly than others? Did the student make a difference, not the teacher? Time is the measure - this is logic
